    Position: Long Term Substitute Spanish Teacher FTE: 1.0 Location: Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Falls Village, CT Start Date: May 4, 2026

    This is a 1.0 FTE teaching position.

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a passionate, dedicated Spanish Teacher who inspires students to reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in the Spanish language and culture, use effective research-backed teaching strategies, and create a welcoming, inclusive classroom where every student feels supported. This teacher will guide students in developing their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while fostering cultural understanding, differentiating instruction for diverse learners, and collaborating with colleagues to build a positive school community.

    Key Responsibilities

    Planning & Instruction

    Design and implement engaging standards-based lessons aligned with curriculum goals. Use data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies responsively. Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices and varied perspectives into daily instruction. Integrate technology and blended learning strategies to enhance student engagement and access.

    Classroom Environment

    Foster a welcoming, inclusive classroom that supports student voice ownership of learning and mutual respect. Promote social-emotional learning by modeling empathy, encouraging self-regulation, and reinforcing classroom expectations. Maintain a safe, organized, and student-centered learning environment.

    Assessment & Feedback

    Use formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and adjust instruction. Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback to support student growth.

    Professional Collaboration & Communication

    Partner with colleagues, families, and support staff to promote student success and well-being. Participate actively in team meetings, professional development, and curriculum work. Communicate clearly and regularly with students and families about progress, expectations, and classroom activities.

    Professionalism

    Demonstrate ethical behavior, confidentiality, and a commitment to continuous professional growth. Serve as a role model for students through professionalism, positive relationships, and cultural humility.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelors degree in Spanish Education or a related field
    • Masters degree preferred
    • Valid Connecticut teaching certification with a 023 World Language - Spanish Grades 7-12 endorsement
    • Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition, proficiency-based instruction, and effective teaching strategies for diverse learners

    Preferred:

    • Experience teaching at the secondary level
    • Familiarity with integrating digital tools and culturally responsive pedagogy

    Other Requirements

    Successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting Ability to meet physical demands of the role, e.g., moving around the classroom assisting students as needed Strong verbal and written communication skills Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
