SUMMARY

The Cleaning Team Member plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and student-ready campus environment that supports learning, belonging, and student success. Guided by a Human First philosophy and the College's Maroon & Gold Standards (MGS), this position helps ensure that instructional, student-service, and common spaces are clean, secure, and well-maintained-contributing directly to students' ability to focus, persist, and succeed.

This position performs general janitorial and housekeeping duties including cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, and other campus facilities. Responsibilities may include vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, floor care, restroom sanitation, event setup, snow removal support, and operating custodial equipment and cleaning tools.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, customer service focused, and able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Team members help maintain high cleanliness standards while supporting a healthy learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This role offers hands-on custodial and facilities experience while contributing to the overall appearance, safety, and daily operations of the College. Training is provided on cleaning procedures, safety practices, equipment operation, and chemical handling.

This is a 2nd shift position. Hours are 2:30pm-11pm

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES included the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • .Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming campus facilities that support student success and a positive learning environment.
  • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, locker rooms, and other assigned spaces.
  • Empty waste and recycling containers and replenish restroom and custodial supplies.
  • Perform floor care including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, carpet extraction, scrubbing, buffing, stripping, and refinishing hard-surface floors.
  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with departmental cleaning standards, quality expectations, and established procedures.
  • Set up and tear down rooms and facilities for meetings, classes, conferences, athletic events, and other campus activities.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required to support campus operations.
  • Operate, maintain, and properly store custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning products.
  • Utilize College technology systems, including work order, communication, and training platforms, to support daily operations.
  • Respond to service requests, emergencies, spills, and other facility-related needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal around building entrances, sidewalks, and other assigned areas.
  • Follow established safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and potential risks to building occupants.
  • Provide courteous, respectful, and service-oriented interactions with students, employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Assist other Facilities Department teams and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, safety training, and other required College and Facilities Department meetings.
  • Participate in professional development, required certifications, training programs, and continuing education opportunities to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve efficiency, service quality, safety, and the overall campus environment.
  • Support and demonstrate the Colleges mission, vision, values, and commitment to student success.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS

Internal: Regular contact with Director, frequent contact with college personnel (including staff, administrators, and faculty) and students on daily work assignments.

External: Limited contact with vendors and suppliers of material and/or equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Minimum

  • Current cleaning methods, materials and equipment
  • Basic features within Microsoft Office (Outlook - current version)
  • Windows operating system (current version)
  • Work request and job ticketing systems; document work as required

Preferred

  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of cleaning equipment
  • OSHA, MIOSHA, and fire and safety regulations

Education and Experience:

Minimum

  • One or more years of related experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Preferred

  • Associates degree

Ability to present a positive image of the college and the Facilities Department in relationship with others and in one's personal habits. Neatness in one's personal habits and dress in accordance with tasks.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

This job requires that the employee is occasionally needed to work a flexible schedule to include some weekend and evening work. The work schedule is determined by coordinating/weighing the available equipment and labor resources against prioritized work requests and pre-planned special events. Work may be required during unscheduled environmental emergencies, building system failures, or occupant cleaning needs.
