Office of the Directors' Latino Health Initiative is recruiting for an enthusiastic and talented individual for a Client Assistance Specialist to join our team. Were seeking someone who thrives on providing exceptional customer service and has experience providing guidance and support to internationally educated health professionals willing to obtain their license in the US. What Youll Be Doing

This position will provide individualized coaching to help clients develop and carry out service plans that outline realistic academic, licensure, certification, and career goals, and support their successful entry or re-entry into Maryland's health workforce.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Help clients to navigate the health field licensure and/or certification process in Maryland, and make referrals to internal and external services, and access to financial aid services as appropriate.
  • In coordination with the Workforce Development Coordinator, assist clients in exploring employment opportunities at healthcare settings including access to on-the-job training, "stepping-stone" job positions, career advancement jobs, and mentoring opportunities, as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain case notes and keep records of individual service plan progresses.
  • Coordinate and plan the implementation of activities pertaining to participants' advancement in academic related matters (including English as a Second Language - ESL), licensure or certification in the health field, and workforce related matters.
  • Support data collection, monitor, tracking, and evaluation activities providing pertinent clients data on progresses made and outcomes achieved to create program and other required reports.
  • Support workforce development, data collection, and evaluation at the Center as well as other duties to support the Latino Health Initiative as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) in English and Spanish
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Flexibility is required, as program activities, client appointments, community events, or outreach sessions may occasionally occur during evening or weekend hours.

Telework: This position may be eligible for limited hybrid telework, up to two days per week, after the initial training period and in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's Degree.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in human services that involved substantive client contact and service delivery through direct assistance or referral. This experience must have included ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of cultures and overcome potential barriers to service.

Substitutions: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Medical Protocol: This position requires completion of a pre-employment Medical History Form to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Leave Benefits

Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year. Positions in MLS earn 35 days of paid time off each year. In addition, we offer all employees 10 paid holidays. Our leave policies adhere to the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993, and we provide six weeks of paid parental leave for new parents.

Retirement Benefits

All permanent and term positions are eligible for robust retirement plans. Public safety positions are eligible for a defined benefit pension plan in which they are vested after only five years. Employees in non-public safety positions can participate in retirement plans that contribute up to 12 percent of their annual salary. All employees can also participate in a supplemental retirement plan, the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, to contribute even more to their retirement goals.

Montgomery County employees are eligible to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Participants who meet all requirements may qualify for forgiveness on the remaining balance on their Direct Loans after making 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time in a qualifying public service position.
