    Client Care Specialist – Emergency Shelter, Full-Time
    3rd Shift | Syracuse, NY
    Schedule: Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:00 PM–7:30 AM
    Starting Pay: $18.50 per hour
    3rd Shift Differential: Additional $2.00 per hour for hours worked between 9:00 PM–7:30 AM

    The Rescue Mission is seeking a Full-Time Client Care Specialist to join our Syracuse Emergency Shelter team. In this direct-care human services role, you will support individuals experiencing homelessness by helping create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where clients can access resources, receive encouragement, and work toward greater stability and independence.
     
    This is a great opportunity for someone interested in human services, social services, behavioral health, mental health, crisis support, residential care, or other direct-care work.
     
    What You’ll Do
    As a Client Care Specialist, you will:
    • Build positive, professional relationships with clients.
    • Provide support, encouragement, and motivation while helping clients maintain or build independence.
    • Treat all clients with respect, dignity, and compassion.
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
    • Help create a safe, supportive, and welcoming shelter environment.
    • Conduct regular rounds and monitor the facility to support client safety.
    • Assist clients with basic needs, including personal care items and bedding.
    • Respond to client concerns and challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
    • Reinforce shelter guidelines and expectations respectfully and consistently.
    • Connect clients with appropriate Rescue Mission services and resources.
    • Conduct drug and breathalyzer testing when required.
    • Document important client information while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
    • Communicate relevant information with team members and participate in meetings.
    • Complete required training within 30 days of assignment.
    Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associate degree in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
    • Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or other barriers is desired.

    Compensation & Benefits
    Starting Pay: $18.50 per hour
