Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions under the supervision and guidance of the Nurse Practitioners and Physicians in clinic. The LPN also participates in the multi-disciplinary process of providing care and treatment to the patients and provides clinical support to the other staff members. The LPN is responsible to function within the scope of practice dictated by the authority of the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. This individual must be able to manage demanding workloads with accuracy. This position also requires excellent customer service skills with the patients, families, staff members, physicians and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist providers with patient office visits, including putting patients in rooms, interviewing patients, recording vital signs and enter all pertinent information in the electronic medical record
  • Performs select clinical tests including but not limited to rapid strep screen, urine dip stick, pregnancy tests, hematocrit, and influenza tests. These tests will be done with skill and accuracy according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and documented in the appropriate place in the electronic medical record
  • Clinical tests will be documented in the logs according to the facility’s policies and procedures
  • Will run controls in accordance to the facility’s policies and procedures manual
  • Be responsible for monitoring temperature in the refrigerators and manager the temperature logs with accuracy
  • Administers and documents injections in the electronic medical record (medical and site given)
  • Assists prover with office based procedures
  • Demonstrates universal precautions
  • Labels and processes patient specimens as needed
  • Organizes exam rooms, including general cleaning, restocking and upkeep
  • Fields patient telephone calls and responds accordingly
  • Demonstrates proper handwashing technique to insure proper infection control
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed
  • Manages patient records in the EHR
  • Follows policies and procedures set forth by the State of Oklahoma VFC Program
  • Enters Immunizations in OSIIS
  • Patient teaching in regards to testing, immunizations or procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Current State of OK Nursing License, Required
  • Basic Life Support, Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Preferred
  • Advanced Pediatric Life Support, Preferred

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Ability to asses, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills
  • Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals
  • Familiarity with the EMR system

Work Environment:

Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, ascend and descend stairs, possess ability to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Employee must frequently be able to lift 25 pounds from the floor to waist level and may occasionally be required to lift 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to clearly focus vision. Arbuckle Memorial Hospital has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
