Overview:

Palliative Care Clinic Office Assistant located in the FirstHealth Cancer Center.  This position will be responsible for the day to day operations of the front desk to include registerring patients, scheduling follow-up appointments, managing phone calls, creating patient charts, coordinating with local referral sources, and obtaining necessary patient information.

Responsibilities:
  • Enters referrals into EMR.
  • Provides education to patient/family regarding palliative care program.
  • Notifies referral sources of outcome.
  • Manages scheduling of appointments.
  • Checks patients in and out and uses accurate and appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Scans/faxes information into the EMR or to referral sources as needed.
  • Ensures inventory of forms and supplies.
  • Registers patients, prepares charts, posts charges and payments, and collects co-payments.
  • Assists with maintaining current database of patients’ demographics and billing information.
  • Operates phone system, takes, and relays messages to appropriate team member.
  • Processes patient referrals for tests and referrals to specialists.
  • Obtains prior authorizations for services.

Enters information in the EMR.

Qualifications:
  • High School Graduate.
  • Associate Degree in Medical Secretarial Science or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Medical scheduling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Valid North Carolina driver license.
