The Cherokee County Health Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Clinical Services team. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on community health by delivering culturally competent, client-centered care across Family Planning, STD/HIV Services, and Immunizations. In addition to supporting clients in Cherokee County, this role also provides assistance as needed to other area health departments, including the Spartanburg County Health Department.

The Clinic RN delivers comprehensive nursing care through assessment, treatment, education, counseling, and referral. This role supports public health goals by promoting wellness, prevention, and vaccine safety while upholding agency values, policies, and medical orders to ensure efficient, confidential, and high-quality service delivery within Cherokee County and other supported health departments.

Key Job Functions Include:

Clinical Assessment and Client Care

  • Conduct client assessments through history-taking, risk evaluation, and focused examinations.
  • Provide individualized care based on clinical findings and diagnostic results.
  • Offer risk-based education aligned with client needs and program guidance.
  • Perform indicated testing, administer clinical services, document care accurately, and make referrals as needed.

Preventive Health Services

  • Deliver comprehensive reproductive and sexual health services including exams, screening, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and education.
  • Administer or dispense medications and clinical methods under standing orders or provider directives.
  • Manage follow-up for abnormal results and support informed decision-making.
  • Complete required program documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Immunization Services and Vaccine Management

  • Assess immunization needs and administer vaccines in clinic settings and during outreach events.
  • Provide education on required and recommended vaccines.
  • Follow VAERS guidelines for adverse event reporting.
  • Maintain proper vaccine storage, handling, and documentation.

Public Health Promotion and Quality Improvement

  • Promote health and wellness through early detection, risk reduction, and client education.
  • Coordinate continuity of care with interdisciplinary teams, providers, and external agencies.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities to enhance health outcomes and strengthen services.
  • Maintain accurate records according to agency policy and the Nurse Practice Act.

Emergency Response and Professional Development

  • Assist with Medical Equipment Power Shelter (MEPS) operations and maintain required emergency response competencies.
  • Provide First Aid, CPR, AED response, and support public health emergency and outbreak efforts.
  • Maintain RN licensure, continuing education, and all required trainings.
  • Complete required daily, monthly, and program reports on schedule.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Maintain flexibility to support agency programs, initiatives, and additional tasks or projects as needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina. Some positions require certification in Basic Life Support. Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license.

Agency Additional Requirements: Must hold an active South Carolina nursing license in good standing, or a valid multistate license in good standing from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) participating state (this allows them to be hired, start working, and have 60 days to change over to SC license by endorsement by BON. Exception is for military status and/or spouse).
