Summary

Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices for patient care and customer service. Oversees and leads clinical care team working collaboratively with physicians to ensure responsive and high quality care for all patients. Assists Practice Manager in specific administrative functions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing

  • One (1) year professional nursing experience

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Clinic experience

Unit Specific Requirements:

Oncology

  • A current Office Lab Assistant license from the State of Nevada Bureau of Licensure

Essential Functions

  • Provides general care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

  • Escorts patients to exam/procedure room. Documents chief complaint, assesses patients' general condition, takes vital signs and interprets norms. Prepares patients for exams.

  • Provides direct patient care for nurse-only and physician visits, including taking and assessing vital signs, giving intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injections and performing office procedures, such as breathing treatments, EKG, suture removal ace wraps, wart treatments per physician request. Provides immunizations as directed by physician. Obtains and documents nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that this is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems.

  • Performs basic assessment of the patient, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • Performs laboratory procedures, including dipstick urinalysis, urine culture, and rapid strep throat swabs. Assures lab quality control and record maintenance. Coordinates lab inspections.

  • Coaches, trains and provides daily leadership and guidance for medical assistants and coordinates pod assignments to physicians. Serves as resource to care team members, identifying problems and guiding staff toward their solution. Participates or leads training, orientation, competency assessment and education of new employees.

  • Coordinates CPR and other certifications for staff in all physician clinics with Human Resources.

  • Handles all prescription issues for the clinic in conjunction with the Physicians. Monitors Coumadin patients for the clinic.

  • Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Dispenses medication as directed. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.

  • Provides education and self-care information to patients and their families.

  • As directed by physician, provide transitional care for patients needing follow up after hospitalization

  • Performs telephone nurse triage and advice.

  • Assists patients with medical claims issues, including providing appeals letters and additional documentation.

  • Follows procedure for obtaining consent to treat, provides education based on assessment; and provides information on community support services.

  • Assures exam/procedure rooms are cleaned, stocked with supplies, and that all medical equipment is sterilized.

  • Assures availability and oversees clinic related inventory for medical and clerical supplies, equipment maintenance and linens.

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility while providing safe patient care.

  • Assist Practice Manager with scheduling, payroll, staff selection and performance evaluations.

  • Coordinates pharmaceutical representative visits/in service and stocking of samples.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
