This position will provide frontline support for the Medical Center Downtown (MCD) radiology operations with an emphasis on quality of care and staffing, under the direction of the Assistant Director, Radiology. This position works with the schedulers and front desk staff to ensure that the patient/customer has an excellent experience at MCD Radiology. This position must anticipate the needs of the patient and serves as a patient advocate in the scheduling/front desk workflow. It will work with clinics and referring physicians concerning policies and regulations as related to Radiology pre-authorizations. This position will identify trends and submit to supervisor to facilitate opportunities for process improvement and modifications to the EPIC scheduling/front desk workflows. The role will serve as a scheduling content expert.
Position Responsibilities
Coordinate the patient scheduling procedures ensuring patients are scheduled for the appropriate exam or procedure and that correct insurance information is obtained.
Performs all functions of a Radiology scheduler.
Explain and train the Radiology scheduling policies and guidelines to other schedulers as needed.
Notify the supervisor of scheduling issues. Provide feedback to management on ways to resolve service issues with scheduling/front desk and pre-authorizations.
Collaborate with co-workers to enhance the delivery of Radiology scheduling and pre-authorization services.
Advises patients and referring clinics concerning policies and regulations related to pre-authorizations.
Coordinates the Radiology scheduling system with Information Systems about hospital scheduling system changes and down-time.
Responsible for registration process in Radiology and serves as a liaison with Patient Fiscal Services in Registration activities to ensure accuracy and completeness,
Responsible for insurance pre-authorization process for Radiology procedures and examinations.
Coordinates the daily staffing for the Radiology office in multiple areas including reception and coders.
Facilitates efficient workflow and patient throughput. Assigns and delegates office activities with the goal of maximizing customer satisfaction.
Assures compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
Assist with the applicant interview and selection process.
Serves as a resource, role model, and mentor for staff.
Provide functional supervision and leadership with new employees and coordinate and deliver training as needed.
Assist with the orientation of new staff and ongoing staff development and education.
Contribute ideas and ways to improve assigned processes.
Assist with special projects assigned by supervisor.
Supports unit and organizational goals and reinforces staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience Requirements
6 months or more of related customer service experience in a health care related environment.
6 months or more experience with pre-authorization for insurance coverage for Radiology procedures.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism while handling difficult situations with callers and customers.
Demonstrated ability to handle complex situations with minimal supervision.
Proficient with computer software applications

Medical terminology
EPIC Experience
Experience with Radiology and/or hospital information systems.
