Summary:

The Clinical Advisor, Wound-Ostomy Nurse is a registered nurse who specializes in the care of patients with wounds, ostomies, and/or continence disorders. Primary responsibilities are to direct, coordinate, and evaluate patient care in the area(s) of their expertise. Specific functions include consultation and education for patients and Catholic Health (CH) clinical staff. Supports nursing care management and collaborates with other multidisciplinary teams of health care providers to implement evidence based care, update clinical practice based on current research and changes in patient/ family needs. This nurse works collaboratively with the hospital nursing staff, the wound care center and other departments to promote a seamless transition of services.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Current New York State RN License
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enrolled in a BSN program with completion date within three (3) years of hire
  • MS in nursing or education preferred
  • Current BLS certification
  • Certification in wound/ostomy care preferred
    (In lieu of certification, enrollment in a certification program and completion within two (2) years will be accepted)

EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years of nursing experience, preferably medical-surgical
  • One (1) year of previous clinical nursing experience in caring for patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulas and pressure ulcers preferred
  • Two (2) years of patient and/or staff teaching experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Strong Microsoft Office skill set
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills and leadership ability
  • Knowledge of current technology and products used in the treatment of wounds
  • Knowledge of Department of Health regulations
  • Ability to provide direction and motivate workforce

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Travel between facilities required
  • Facility-specific weekend or evening hours may be required
  • May be required to transport educational materials
  • Outpatient ostomy visits at Wound Center
