Texas State University invites applicants for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Health Professions. The department, located on our Round Rock Campus (RRC) offers a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. The department includes 15 faculty and staff serving over 134 doctoral students. The position is a 9-month appointment with potential for summer employment.

We are looking for a collaborative and student-centered educator who values shared governance, contributes positively to team culture, and actively engages in a collegial academic environment that supports faculty, staff, students, and community partners.

Position Description:

The role includes teaching in the entry-level DPT program across both clinical and didactic settings, providing clinical instruction in general and specialty areas, and facilitating engaging, inclusive, evidence‑based didactic learning experiences. The faculty member will also assist with clinical education coordination as an Assistant Director of Clinical Education, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, evaluation, and continuous program improvement, and actively contribute to a supportive, respectful, and collaborative faculty culture through participation in meetings, committees, and shared governance. Additionally, the position involves engaging in service to the school, college, university, and community, including fostering partnerships with clinical agencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Has an earned Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from an accredited university.
  • A licensed PT, or eligible to apply for licensure, in the state of Texas.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing, updating, and teaching contemporary neurologic, cardiopulmonary, and vestibular physical therapy lecture and hands-on laboratory sessions
  • Experience with clinical education coordination as a Director of Clinical Education or Assistant Director of Clinical Education for an entry-level DPT program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in an entry-level DPT program.
  • Evidence of scholarly work including at least 2 poster and/or platform presentations and participation in collaborative grant activity in the last 5 years.
  • Active participation in department, college, university-level, and/or professional service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Holds specialized certification in neurologic and/or vestibular physical therapy.
  • Recognized for teaching, scholarship, and/or service through department, college, or university awards.
  • Maintains active professional development through continuing education and participation in national conferences (e.g., APTA, Educational Leadership Conference).
  • Previous experience with course redesign in an entry-level DPT program.
