Clinical Associate Advanced Practice Provider (PA)

Function/Duties of Position

1. Clinical Activities (not related to assigned administrative, education, or research FTE teaching or research):a. Directi. Patient population: Inpatient: The APP will spend 60% of their time on our inpatient service and will be responsible for providing excellent direct clinical care for patients admitted to the adult urology service while working in conjunction with faculty physicians and resident physicians, during which time there will not be any competing outpatient responsibilities. Inpatient duties include but are not limited to: • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations and ongoing clinical assessments for admitted and post-procedural urology patients.• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic urologic conditions within the APP scope of practice in collaboration with the urology team.• Develop and implement diagnostic and treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians, consistent with credentialing and scope of practice.• Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests.• Admit, round on, and discharge patients, ensuring continuity of care throughout the hospitalization.• Write daily progress notes, admission notes, discharge summaries, orders, and other documentation in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.• Coordinate patient care with consulting services, procedural staff, and ancillary teams as needed.• Work collaboratively with nursing staff, pharmacists, case managers, social workers, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care.• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to discharge planning to facilitate timely and appropriate transitions of care.• Perform medication reconciliation and provide discharge instructions and patient education regarding diagnoses, procedures, medications, postoperative care, and follow-up plans.• Communicate patient status and care plans with patients, families, faculty physicians, resident physicians, consulting providers, and outpatient providers to ensure continuity of care.• Identify changes in patient condition requiring escalation of care and coordinate appropriate interventions.• Perform procedures within credentialed privileges, as applicable.• Complete accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation and billing, as applicable.• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and departmental initiatives as appropriate.

Outpatient: The APP will spend the other 40% of their time establishing and providing independent clinical coverage for the Urology Immediate Care Clinic, during which time there will not be any competing inpatient responsibilities. Duties include but are not limited to; • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute urologic conditions within the APP scope of practice to established patients within the department, including, but not limited to urinary tract infections, acute urinary retention, difficulty voiding, or post-operative concerns.• Order and interpret laboratory testing, urinalysis, urine cultures, imaging, and other diagnostic studies. • Develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and provide procedural care within credentialed privileges. • Identify patients requiring escalation of care, emergency department evaluation, hospital admission, or physician consultation. • Communicate assessment findings, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations with the patient''s primary urologist and other members of the care team to ensure continuity of care. • Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, self-care, and return precautions. • Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.• Collaborate with clinic nursing staff to address urgent patient concerns, provide clinical guidance, and provide orders as appropriate.ii. Practice area will be in both the inpatient and outpatient setting and practice type will be a hybrid model with a partial independent practice iii. Clinical coverage requirement: 60% inpatient coverage and 40% immediate care outpatient clinic coverageiv. Other activities (not covered above):All APPs are expected to engage in division and unit meetings and contribute to quality improvement activities and general clinical citizenshipb. Indirect Care: Time will be provided based on the collective bargaining agreement for indirect care time related to ambulatory time.

2. All APPs are expected to support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU through routine clinical care that includes working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research, consistent with their role, scope of practice, and applicable contract and institutional policies3. Professionalism & Team Engagement (Ongoing):• Meeting attendance: Make a reasonable, good-faith effort to attend recurring division/service meetings, including faculty and APP meetings and the relevant M&M / case review conferences. Attendance is expected when scheduled to work and not on PTO, FMLA/OFLA, holiday, post night shift, or assigned to incompatible clinical coverage. When unable to attend, review minutes/recordings and follow up on action items as applicable. Per CBA qualifying meetings may count toward Faculty Pursuits for Clinical Faculty; for Clinical Associates, time is included in the standard work expectation.• Professional communication: Check and respond to work email, Epic In-Basket, and Teams/secure messaging during scheduled working days in a timely manner commensurate with clinical urgency. No response is expected during PTO, vacation, protected leave, approved time off, non-work hours, or post night shift. Out-of-office messages and appropriate coverage handoffs are expected before planned absences.• Team citizenship: Model respectful, collaborative behavior consistent with the OHSU Code of Conduct, Respect in the Workplace, and the OHSU-APU CBA; contribute to a healthy team culture, handoffs, and coverage planning; support colleagues across the Urology continuum.• Professional development & credentialing: Maintain active licensure, board certification, DEA registration, and BLS/ACLS as applicable; complete required OHSU compliance training on time; engage in continuing education aligned with scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized APRN specialty (Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent experience. - OR -

• Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Physician

• Assistant/Associate Studies or equivalent experience.

• Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.

• Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

• Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software.

• Regular and consistent attendance at work

• Current RN and APRN NP licensure with the Oregon and Washington Boards of Nursing.

• Current national Certification in the area of specialization.

• Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position.

• DEA Certification.- OR -

• Current PA licensure with the Oregon and Washington Medical Boards.

• Current NCCPA Certification.

• Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification.

• DEA Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer 3-5 years clinical experience as an APP that demonstrates ability to fulfill responsibilities for the specific role.

• Quality improvement experience

• Other position specific: Immediate care or urgent care experience

This position is located at University Hospital, CHH, AHP; may be exposed to tissues and bodily fluids.
