JOB PURPOSE: To lead teaching, clinical activities, and resident mentorship, while promoting excellence in clinical and translational dental research.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is responsible for supporting graduate dental education through teaching, research mentorship, and program administration within the Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic residency programs. The incumbent develops and delivers instruction in biostatistics, epidemiology, and research methodology, mentors residents and students in scholarly activity.

The role requires collaboration with faculty, program leadership, and institutional offices to ensure curriculum quality, accreditation compliance, and continuous program improvement. The position exercises professional judgment in coordinating academic and research activities that support resident education and the College of Dentistry's research mission.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Teaching & Education • Teach graduate-level biostatistics and epidemiology to dental residents. • Develop and update curricula integrating evidence-based dentistry and clinical research methods. • Provide research training for dental residents and dental students.

Research Mentorship • Mentor pediatric dentistry and orthodontic residents in study design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. • Supervise MS theses, capstone projects, and scholarly publications.

Program Leadership • Serve as liaison for the development of MS degree programs in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Dental Research. • Oversee curriculum development, admissions processes, accreditation compliance, and continuous program improvement.

Scholarly Activity • Maintain an active research agenda, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and pursue external funding.

SERVICE:

College and University Engagement • Attend and support: • College of Dentistry award ceremonies, open assemblies, and White Coat Ceremonies • University functions (Convocation, Graduation, Charter Day, State of the University Address) • Faculty meetings, department meetings, and other assigned meetings • Faculty retreats and professional development workshops • Accreditation preparedness and readiness meetings • Howard University College of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education programs

Compliance and Professional Responsibilities • Participate in required compliance and professional training (e.g., HIPAA, Infection Control, CPR certification, Howard University Hospital compliance modules, CETLA training). • Maintain compliance with clinical documentation and billing requirements when applicable. • Participate in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities related to clinical services and didactic instruction.

Institutional Service • Serve on College and University committees and participate in community service and outreach activities. • Accept leadership roles within the College, Health Sciences, or University when appropriate. • Serve as a role model and ambassador for Howard University and the College of Dentistry. • Demonstrate professionalism consistent with a humanistic, team-based academic environment grounded in collaboration, respect, and service. • Meet or exceed your Department (Specialty) Quality Goals if applicable

Administrative Activities Devote time and effort to participate in College, Departmental, and University committees as assigned by the Office of the Dean and your Department Chair in your assignment as an Associate Professor.

SALARY RANGE FOR POSTING JOB The hiring range for this position is $150,000 to $150,800 annually. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience, credentials, and institutional equity considerations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • DDS (or equivalent dental degree) • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or biomedical sciences) • Experience teaching statistics and epidemiology • Demonstrated record of mentoring resident or graduate research
