Position Summary

Salary: Based on education and experience commensurate with Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule D1 ($42,108-$94,363). This is a twelve-month position. Summer (an additional $13,001-$29,184).

This position includes all responsibilities of a full-time instructor and additional responsibilities related to the coordination of education services in the clinical setting according to the standards of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (DMS). This position reports to the Program Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Program Director in the implementation of the DMS Program

  2. Coordinate clinical education for DMS students

  3. Serve as a liaison between the college and affiliating clinical facilities

  4. Maintain the DMS programs clinical education records

  5. Recruit and develop clinical affiliation sites

  6. Develop, monitor, and refine the clinical education component of the curriculum

  7. Facilitate quality learning experiences for students during clinical education by selecting clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice

  8. Periodically meet with the program director, center coordinators of clinical education and clinical instructors to communicate relevant information

  9. Make and document regular, scheduled visits to the clinical educational centers to evaluate effectiveness and compliance with program policies

  10. Conduct clinical instructor training and collaborate with clinical instructors to ensure adequate instruction and appropriate supervision of students in the clinical setting

  11. Establish standard methods for evaluation of student clinical performance and evaluation of clinical facilities and instructors

  12. Responsible for providing classroom instruction in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography; must identify and assess student learning and outcomes

  13. Is responsible for class and laboratory preparation

  14. Is responsible for fulfilling basic faculty functions such as curriculum design, development, and evaluation. Recommend new or revised curriculum

  15. Assist the Program Director in the development of advising materials and provide academic advising/counseling to students

  16. Performs institutional responsibilities and professional service which contribute to the fulfillment of the colleges mission

  17. Follows institutional policies and procedures and fulfills the terms of ones employment

  18. Maintains professional competency in diagnostic medical sonography

  19. Maintains credentials and participate in activities of professional organizations and in continuing education programs

  20. Adheres to accrediting agency requirements

  21. Performs division/program responsibilities

  22. Serve on division and college committees as requested

  23. Fulfills other duties and responsibilities as delegated by appropriates

Qualifications

Education: Possess an associate degree or higher in the field of diagnostic medical sonography required.

Experience: Minimum of three years of clinical experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer required.

Have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in educational theories and techniques Required.

Credentials: Possess RDMS credentials (Abdomen, and/or obstetrics & gynecology, &/or vascular) Required.

Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
