The Clinical Coordinator is a core faculty member within the Midwifery & Women’s Health Programs and plays a central role in supporting Thomas Jefferson University’s midwifery students through the oversight, development, and evaluation of all clinical education components. This position manages the administrative, academic, operational, and student-facing functions related to clinical placements, preceptor engagement, and clinical evaluation.

The Clinical Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for clinical partners and preceptors and collaborates closely with student advisors to ensure high-quality clinical learning environments. In partnership with program leadership, faculty, and the program coordinator, the Clinical Coordinator ensures compliance with accreditation standards, state regulations, and university policies. This role is ideal for a highly organized, student-centered professional who excels in relationship-building, communication, and collaborative academic work.

Clinical Coordinator Key Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Placements, Credentialing & Compliance

Ensure all clinical sites, preceptors, and students meet credentialing and compliance requirements prior to each rotation, in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.
Serve as a resource for clinical policies, procedures, and best practices.
Review clinical forms at regular intervals to ensure accuracy and relevance; implement updates annually or sooner if urgent.
Hold weekly clinical meetings or “office hours” to support advisors in guiding students through the clinical site search process.
Assist in placing internal students at Jefferson clinical sites.
Ensure clinical preparation materials (student and faculty versions) remain current and comprehensive.

Teaching & On Campus Intensives

Coordinate and teach during all on campus intensives (held in May and January).
Participate in orientation of new students prior to the fall semester each year.
Contribute to the design, delivery, and evaluation of clinical preparation content.

Clinical Course Support

Assist in the Midwifery Clinical Collaborative courses by attending weekly student check in meetings and educational sessions.
Provide guidance to students on clinical expectations, professional behaviors, and competency development.

Preceptor Relations & Development

Host Preceptor Information Sessions each semester for new and returning preceptors.
Foster strong relationships with clinical preceptors and serve as a resource for questions, concerns, and educational support.

Student Support

Support student compliance processes in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.
Collaborate with faculty and advisors to address concerns.

Program & Faculty Participation

Attend midwifery faculty meetings and contribute to program planning, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
Participate in accreditation-related activities as needed.
Collaborate with faculty on curriculum refinement related to clinical education.

Job Description

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

Master’s degree or doctorate in midwifery, nursing, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) or Certified Midwife (CM) with current licensure and national certification.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of three (3) years of clinical midwifery practice.

Experience teaching or precepting midwifery students in academic or clinical settings.

Demonstrated excellence in communication, organization, and collaboration with students, faculty, and clinical partners.

Evidence of professional engagement, scholarship, or contributions to the midwifery community.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience coordinating clinical education or managing clinical partnerships.

Familiarity with ACME accreditation standards and university academic policies.

Experience advising or mentoring graduate-level students.

Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with clinical partners.
