Clinical Cosmetologist
Schedule: 40 Hours Per Week
Location: The Cancer Institute Boutique
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides prescribed beauty services for oncology patients and others whose appearance has been altered due to disease or treatment by performing the following duties. Applies clinical precautions to all services based on patient's disease and or treatment. Provides day to day managerial oversight for the image recovery center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greet patients and or visitors to the Center, in a friendly warm manner.
- Maintains patient records and patient satisfaction in accordance with Lancaster General standards and protocols.
- Gathers and reviews patient information and pertinent clinical history.
- Hair Replacement services such as cutting, styling, sizing cap as well as ongoing maintenance.
- Analyzes hair to ascertain condition of hair. Hair removal to scalp when hair loss is induced due to medical treatment.
- Shampoos hair and scalp with water and products appropriate for clients needs and condition.
- Massages scalp and gives other hair and scalp-conditioning treatments for hygienic or remedial purposes.
- Styles hair by blowing, cutting, trimming, and tapering to achieve desired style.
- Suggests coiffure according to physical features of patron and current styles, or determines coiffure from instructions of patron.
- Sets hair by blow-dry or natural set, or presses hair with straightening comb
- Applies bleach, dye, or tint to color customer's hair, first applying solution to portion of customer's skin to determine if customer is allergic to solution.
- Performs permanent wave treatment by use of rods.
- Awareness of all product knowledge; recommends specific products & cosmetics for different skin types.
- Applies lotions and creams to customer's face and neck to soften skin and lubricate tissues.
- Performs other beauty services such as massaging face or neck, shaping and coloring eyebrows or eyelashes and removing unwanted hair.
- Performs therapeutic manicures and pedicures. Cleans, shapes, and polishes fingernails and toenails. Reinforces lymphaedema precautions, the risk of infection, and bleeding due to picking or cutting of skin around the nails or hands.
- Informs patients of insurance and prescription requirements for products and services.
- Orders merchandise for clients and prepares requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand.
- Provides an organized center display area and an orderly center.
- Coordinates oversight of daily salon operations which include: enforces standards, policies, delivery of services and maintaining merchandise in the image recovery center. Oversees billing process, responsible for staff product knowledge and education. Oversees service schedule for providers and employees.
- Assures the security of the center and its assets. Supervises employees to ensure compliance with security, sales, purchasing, and overall record keeping procedures.
- Assist with new employee selection and trains new staff to provide image recovery services according to established policies and procedures.
- Coordinates marketing & promotional activities and assist with preparation for merchandise displays and presentation.
- Answers customers' inquiries and will address or relay complaints.
- Answers telephone, relays messages, screens calls, schedules patient appointments, and greets and directs patients, salespeople, and visitors.
- Assists with maintaining all supplies and equipment for the center.
- Covers for support duties of the center when needed.
- Will be cross trained to serve as a breast fitter once certification is complete.
- Awareness of grant availability.
- Develops and track performance metrics.
- Participates with in-service activities for patients, physicians and related hospital departments.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by manager.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- PA license of cosmetology
