In this role, you’ll provide behavioral health assessments, counseling and therapeutic support while continuing to develop your clinical skills under the supervision of a licensed clinician.

As a Clinical Counselor Registered Intern, you’ll meet individuals and families where they are, help identify their needs and goals, and provide evidence-based therapeutic services designed to promote recovery, resilience and overall well-being.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Depending on your assigned CHS program, your responsibilities may include:

Provide Meaningful Clinical Support

You’ll work directly with children, individuals, and families to provide behavioral health services in CHS offices and facilities, client homes, schools, or community settings.

You may:

• Provide individual, group and family therapy.
• Conduct clinical assessments and help identify client and family needs.
• Develop treatment plans and provide clinical interventions under the supervision of a licensed clinician.
• Deliver evidence-based treatment interventions, including approaches such as Trauma-Focused Care and Infant Mental Health, as applicable.
• Provide crisis counseling and support to families.
• Monitor client progress and adjust interventions based on individual needs.
• Provide case management, referrals and connections to additional resources when appropriate.

Help Children & Families Build New Skills

Therapy isn't only about addressing what’s wrong—it’s also about helping people recognize what’s possible.

You may facilitate psychoeducational classes and groups focused on areas such as:

• Parenting skills
• Independent living skills
• Anger management
• Behavior management
• Substance use
• Other skills and topics based on program and client needs

You’ll help clients identify goals, understand their options and develop practical tools they can carry with them beyond the counseling session.

Be Part of the Bigger Support System

Children and families often need more than one person or service to succeed.

You’ll collaborate with:

• Licensed clinicians
• CHS team members
• Social service agencies
• Community organizations
• Multidisciplinary treatment teams
• Other professionals supporting the child or family

Together, you’ll help create a more coordinated network of care.

Keep Care Connected & Accountable

Strong clinical care also requires strong documentation.

You’ll:

• Develop and maintain clinical records according to CHS and contract requirements.
• Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and termination summaries.
• Enter required information into CHS client information and electronic health record systems.
• Complete applicable billable units and documentation within required timelines.
• Participate in treatment and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Support quality assurance, peer review and applicable Medicaid, licensing, contractual and accreditation requirements.
• Meet established program productivity expectations while maintaining CHS standards of care.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Required Education

A Master’s degree (MA/MS) from an accredited college or university in:

• Social Work
• Psychology
• Marriage & Family Therapy
• Mental Health Counseling

OR

A Master’s degree in Nursing, Rehabilitation, Special Education, Health Education or another related human services field with the required graduate-level coursework outlined for this position.

Required Registration & Credentials

• Active, unrestricted Registered Intern status in the State of Florida
• Must meet applicable Medicaid Master’s-level practitioner staff qualifications.
• Must meet applicable Council on Accreditation (COA) standards for the program.
• Florida Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
• Daily access to a reliable and insured vehicle.

Registered Interns must use the appropriate professional credential designation based on their Florida registration.

Experience

You’ll need:

• 2 years of post-Bachelor’s experience working with at-risk children and families OR 1 year of post-Master’s experience
• 2 years of experience providing services to individuals with behavioral health disorders and/or the ability to be supervised by a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA)

Preferred:

• 3 years of experience working with emotionally disturbed children and/or adolescents
