Overview

Provide individual clinical services to students coping with co-occurring substance use/addiction and mental health concerns. This is a 9 month academic year part-time position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct counseling for students and student athletes. Assess level of substance use and mental health concerns. Provide intervention, treatment and referrals. Assess range of mental health symptoms, substance misuse/abuse/addiction symptoms and behaviors. Provide referral of students to off campus resources, higher levels of care, detox, and assist with medical leave requests. Provide substance use assessment and treatment plans to student athletes who test positive on NCAA drug tests. Provide follow-up with students involved in substance use emergencies requiring emergency intervention. Coordinate care as needed. Provide substance use/harm reduction group therapy options to interested students. (35%)
  • Assess students' emotional, psychological, behavioral, substance use, and developmental mental health concerns which impact current level of functioning. Conduct extensive clinical interviews/assessment/consultation to formulate appropriate treatments plans. Coordinate off-campus psychiatric and/or medical evaluations when necessary and referrals to both on and off campus resources. (30%)
  • Provide substance use assessment and treatment plans to student athletes who test positive on NCAA drug tests. Provide follow-up with students involved in substance use emergencies requirement emergency intervention. Coordinate care as needed. Provide substance use/harm reduction group therapy options to interested students. Connect and consult with psychiatric and other health care providers. Refer to on and off campus professionals when appropriate. (15%)
  • Provide crisis intervention for students who are experiencing acute emotional distress as a result of varying emergencies such as trauma (i.e. security assault), death, substance misuse, or who are a danger to themselves (i.e. suicidal thoughts) or are a danger to others. Determine severity of presenting crisis, degree of danger, level of harm to oneself or others; assess appropriate interventions necessary, coordinate on and off campus assistance with support services. Provide psychological/clinical judgment when required to administration, including the Executive Director of Personal Counseling, AD of Substance Use Services, and the Office of the Vice President. (10%)
  • Complete documentation of clinical and case management encounters within a strict timeline. Maintain records and clinical information consistent with professional standards and PCC practices. Ensure readiness of documentation for in-office psychiatry referrals. (10%)

MARGINAL DUTIES:

  • Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in mental health counseling, clinical social work, or clinical psychology required.
  • One to three years' experience post-licensure provision of individual clinical services or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in emergency mental health assessment and crisis intervention, substance use assessment, and disordered eating screenings.
  • Experience providing ongoing care to individuals coping with substance use disorders and mental health diagnoses.
  • Experience working with young adult populations, preferably within a college mental health setting.
  • Ability to work independently clinically while still participating as part of a team.
  • Experience with diverse cultural backgrounds and identities such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, first generation students, neurodiverse students, and student athletes.
  • Intermediate experience with electronic medical record software.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
