    Summary:

    Works in collaboration with HUP Nursing Leadership, the Systems Director for Infusion Services, and the Division of hematology oncology in providing nursing leadership at the departmental, institutional, and entity levels; accountable for ensuring that nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing research are carried out according to designated standards. Develops plans to meet the human and material needs of the department on an immediate, short-term, and long-term basis.The role of the Clinical Director- Outpatient Oncology is an integrated role with HUP Infusion Services, and multiple departments across the system including hematology oncology. The Clinical Director- Outpatient Oncology is responsible for providing clinical and administrative leadership with the management of Infusion and Shared Services Clinic (SSC) operations at the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) in the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM), as well as the management of the Center for Human Phenomic Science (CHPS). The scope of this role will provide director level oversight of the Integrated Infusion- Infusion Nurse Managers, Infusion Clinical Practice Lead, Infusion Improvement Advisor, and Infusion Manager of Clinical Informatics. The Clinical Director- Outpatient Oncology will work closely with Nursing Leadership across Penn Medicine Infusion locations to align processes lead clinical practice integration across the Penn Medicine Infusion enterprise.

       

      Responsibilities:

      Internal Partnerships: - Works with Penn Medicine Leadership, clinical leadership and Entity leadership in developing programs, services and initiatives to anticipate future customer needs, build customer loyalty and generate profitable growth. - Sets standards and drives operational integration of programs by ensuring alignment of communication to Nursing and Non-Nursing Leadership.
      Establish/update processes and work practices for the unit/department: - Manage and eliminate process workarounds by appropriately and consistently sharing with organizational partners the issues which require their attention. - Review Survey comments and follow-up where appropriate on a monthly basis. - Collaborate with the staff to develop action plans for improvement. - In conjunction with all stakeholders involved in the patient care processes, institute operational changes based on data (e.g. Patient Safety reporting system data, customized unit/department operations data). - Continuously improve unit/department operations to maintain and exceed internal/external regulatory compliance and achieve clinical excellence. - Participates in and supports patient safety goals and initiatives (FMEA,RCA) - Identify unit quality metrics, review and track

      communicate to the staff, and develop/implement action plans to improve performance. - Regulatory Compliance: (In partnership with Leadership Team) o Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory standards and requirements, including TJC, Department of Health, funding agencies, FDA, and others. o Demonstrates understanding of Magnet standards and aligns organizations to meet them

      Strategic Planning Processes: - Partners with Leadership team in: o Developing strategic plan and budget including 3-5 year strategic imperatives and measures of success

      • Establishing annual strategic priorities and implementation plans
      •  Developing ongoing brand and market strategies. - Ensures that annual strategic goals are linked to Nursing and leadership’s performance targets. - Participates as a member of Leadership Team in the development of strategic capital and other resource priorities and manages them for maximum benefit to Penn Medicine. - Ensures Nursing leadership understand and can represent to all stakeholders Health System and Finance strategic plans and targets.

      Change Management - Proactively develops change management strategy for major organizational activities and events - Implements change management strategy within Nursing and UPHS in alignment with Penn Medicine objectives. - Identifies and facilitates agreement of major messages which are consistent regardless of audience, credible and reflects UPHS’ core values - Communication plans are effectively implemented - Ensure appropriate follow-up of major issues - Manage routine and crisis communications throughout the entity/community as they arise - Demonstrates recognition of the systemic impact of employee communication and/or policy changes and solicits proactive feedback prior to implementation. - Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans.

      Nursing Leadership - Provides vision and leadership for Nursing Practice Model. - Participates in the selection, career development and annual performance review of Nurse Managers. - In cooperation with interdisciplinary colleagues, assists in improving system-wide capability by capturing and sharing best practices across the Health System and benchmarking outside the Health System. - Collaborates with other Clinical Directors and leaders in rapid and effective implementation of these best practices in ways appropriate to each health delivery setting. - In collaboration with physician and administration proactively promotes efforts to improve cost effective quality patient care.

      Workforce Planning and Development: - Talent management plan in place for current and future staff - Succession plan in place for critical positions - Support Magnet initiatives and ensure Clinical Nurse participation in decision-making regarding the work of Nursing. - Development of staff - Encourages continuous growth and helps staff to realize full potential by identifying stretch objectives and creating learning plans

      Retention and Employee Satisfaction: - Employee retention strategy in place - Employee survey implementation and action planning - Positive employee relations - Effective employee communications - Regularly meets with employees to improve communication and to build productive relationships. - Continuously communicates to staff the importance of patient satisfaction, quality of care, and sound financial performance
      and champions our successes and priorities for improving performance in meeting and exceeding patient and customer expectations.

      Credentials:

      • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
      • Oncology Certified RN (Required)
      • ONS Chemotheraphy Certified (Required)
      • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)

      Education or Equivalent Experience:

      • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) Education Specialization: Nursing Equivalent Experience:
      • Master of Arts or Science (Required) Education Specialization: Doctorate Degree Nursing Equivalent Experience: •5+ years Progressive leadership experience in Ambulatory Infusion
