Clinical Education Instructor — Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy & EKG
Phlebotomy Career Training, LLC | On-site in Dearborn, Michigan Proposed engagement: Independent contractor (Form W-9), subject to final worker-classification review Compensation: 20% of tuition paid by eligible students in the instructor’s assigned cohort
The opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on clinical educator to teach medical assistant, phlebotomy, and EKG skills. This is a practical teaching role, not a lecture-heavy position. The instructor demonstrates each skill, coaches students as they practice, evaluates their performance against the program’s requirements, and makes sure students have a meaningful opportunity to develop competence before their final assessment.
Classes are expected to begin approximately every three weeks, subject to enrollment and program scheduling. Additional details about the assignment and teaching expectations will be discussed during the interview.
Teaching schedule
•Medical assistant and EKG cohorts: Week 1, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Week 2, Monday–Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The class concludes at the end of the second week.
•Phlebotomy cohorts: The classroom and skills portion meets Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Each student must subsequently complete 50 blood draws at the school. The instructor is responsible for guiding, tracking, and verifying students’ progress toward that requirement; completion may extend beyond the four teaching days.
What the instructor will do
•Lead demonstrations and supervised, hands-on practice in the assigned medical assistant, phlebotomy, and/or EKG program; use lecture to support skills training rather than replace it.
•Teach students the program’s required clinical techniques and give clear, individualized feedback and additional practice when needed.
•Assess each student’s practical skills against the school’s established standards and document competency accurately. A student must demonstrate the required skills to pass; no student should be signed off solely to satisfy an enrollment or payment target.
•For phlebotomy cohorts, support safe school-based blood-draw practice and maintain accurate records showing whether each student has completed the required 50 blood draws and met the program’s passing criteria.
•Maintain an organized instructional environment and follow applicable safety, infection-prevention, confidentiality, and school procedures.
•Communicate student progress, needed remediation, and completion status to the school.
Compensation and payment timing
The proposed instructor share is 20% of tuition actually paid by students who remain in the cohort and meet the applicable passing requirements. Tuition from students who withdraw or do not pass is not included in the instructor’s eligible-student calculation.
•Medical assistant and EKG: The school calculates and pays the instructor’s share for eligible students when the class concludes at the end of Week 2.
•Phlebotomy: The instructor’s share for an eligible student becomes payable after that student completes all 50 school-based blood draws and satisfies the program’s passing requirements. This may be later than the Monday–Thursday teaching week; students may reach completion at different times.
Illustration, not guaranteed earnings: If 20 eligible students each pay $1,500 in tuition, the tuition base is $30,000 and the instructor’s 20% share is $6,000 for that cohort. If only 17 students are eligible at the same paid tuition amount, the share is $5,100. Actual payment depends on paid tuition and eligible student completions; cohort size is not guaranteed.
Qualifications
•Strong, recent hands-on experience in the clinical subjects the instructor will be assigned to teach.
•Ability to demonstrate techniques clearly, supervise practice, evaluate skills consistently, and coach learners with different levels of experience.
•Familiarity with safe clinical practices, infection prevention, and accurate training records.
•Any applicable credentials or authorization required for the assigned instruction and clinical procedures.
•Dependability for the stated on-site cohort schedule and follow-through on student competency documentation.
More details will be provided during the interview.
