Clinical Educator RN

Job Summary:

The Clinical Educator RN is responsible for the training and education of employees based on Clinic needs. Their duties include designing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating orientation and continuing education for all clinical levels of personnel. Facilitates professional development of staff; provides leadership to facilitate and promote clinical improvement initiatives.  Delivers standardized, competency-based, training, and development programs, such as new employee orientation, ongoing education, and clinical training.

Qualifications:

Education:                                    

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Education, or Equivalent.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, or Equivalent, preferred                                        

Experience:                                   

  • Two years’ recent clinical experience in a Pediatric or Family Medicine setting
  • More than three year’s clinical experience, preferred
  • Recent clinical experience in a Federally Qualified Health Care Look-Alike or Federally Qualified Health Care setting, preferred                                                                                                                                    

Licensure:                                

  • Active nursing license from the state of Pennsylvania

  Training:                                       

  • Basic Life Support Training.            

Essential Functions:

Designs, develops, plans, and implements standardized education for all clinical staff.

  • Acts as a mentor during the orientation process; teaches, trains, observes, and works alongside the clinical staff in the practice setting.
  • Implements quality initiatives into clinical workflows and monitors compliance in conjunction with leadership.
  • Identifies the need for new competencies and utilizes the necessary resources to develop and implement.
  • Fosters teamwork and interprofessional collaborating by providing regular feedback and involving peers in decisions that will affect them as it relates to ongoing education.
  • Participates in continuing education activity planning committees for ongoing education to all clinical staff.
  • Attends clinical departmental staff meetings as needed to provide educational updates.
  • Assists in the development of staff to function in new roles by providing clinical education and team building consultation.
  • Partners with practice leadership to provide clinical input into action plans to assist with clinical development and resolution of clinical concerns.
  • Conducts chart audits to monitor compliance with regulatory and program standards.
  • Ensures compliance with Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Standards.

     

    Collaborates with VHP Leadership to identify needs for quality workflow development.

    • Assists in the development of quality improvement efforts and workflows. Assists in the monitoring of quality metrics to assure compliance with quality improvement workflows. 
    • Assumes personal responsibility for providing quality service, comfort and responsiveness as perceived by patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
    • Works with other relevant provider organizations and statewide groups, as applicable, to coordinate and align quality improvement efforts.

     

    Collaborates with VHP practices to ensure compliance with CDC, VFC and medication storage guidelines.

    • Assists senior leadership with practice VFC enrollment/disenrollment, changes with Primary & Secondary vaccine coordinators, and PIERS.
    • Leads VFC education offerings and development of emergency vaccine management plans.
    • Coordinates VFC site visits with the state, assists practices in site visit preparation, and follow-up actions to ensure compliance with VFC requirements.
    • Reviews vaccine orders, returns, and waste with practice leadership to identify opportunities for reducing vaccine waste. Assists the practice(s) with implementing identified strategies and processes as applicable.
    • Ensures all practices that have medication appliances are set up with continuous temperature monitoring, ensuring appropriate practice colleagues are set up to access temperature reports and receive alerts for out of range temperatures, and works with the practices to troubleshoot temperature excursions.

     

    Serves as the Primary Lab Coordinator for VHP Practices that provide in office point of care testing.

    • Provides oversight and ensures compliance with PA DOH lab requirements for physician practices.
    • Attends PA DOH lab education offerings to stay up to date on compliance, learn best practices, and identify and implement best practices to streamline laboratory processes.
    • Completes all PA DOH and API paperwork to support new locations, acquisitions, and point of care lab changes to existent practices.
    • Develops POCT competencies and assists senior leadership with development and review of POCT and laboratory procedures and cost savings opportunities.

       Collaborates and supports VHP practices with additional clinical activities

    • Leads and supports Clinical Biomed efforts across VHP practices by setting up new clinical equipment, performing software maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and assisting with repairs.
    • Leads education efforts on usage of clinical equipment and partners with manufacturer representatives as needed for education and demo support. 
    • Supports and partners with VHP Operations and Senior Leadership to support clinical operations with community partner events.
    • To promote patient safety and clinical operations, supports and partners with VHP Operations on providing clinical support and fulfilling clinical responsibilities within VHP practices and departments.

    • Provides clinical educators with the tools and resources necessary to facilitate clinical education efforts throughout VHP.
