Summary: The primary responsibilities of the nursing Information Manager will include education and support for the electronic health record (EHR) and other computer applications supporting patient care to hospital staff and providers.In collaboration with the Department of Nursing, HSA/SJMC Information System representatives, Hospital Information Management, Medical Staff Office, and other ancillary departments; the NIM will participate in the planning, implementation, and support of all clinical informatics projects at the hospital.This position will be responsible for meeting with clinical managers, management teams, and users to optimize the use of current clinical applications, design and implement educational needs, and route escalated service call needs.The NIM will support the standardization, quality, and optimization of clinical computing within the EHR, in collaboration with the HSA IS Analysist Team and the NIMs at other HSA hospitals.Working collaboratively with clinical staff, the NIM will be responsible for ensuring optimum planning of IS projects and resources and be responsible for defining the training and support needs of clinical personnel in the use of information technology.The NIM also performs the duties of Hospital Contract manager. They are responsible for establishing and overseeing clinical and non-clinical contracts.Duties and Responsibilities: Service: Consistently support and communicate the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph medical Center.Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.Adheres to all HSA policy on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).Serves as a change agent, assisting staff in understanding the importance of necessity, impact, and process of change.Develop, maintain, and provide education for clinical applications used by facility physicians, clinical staff, contracted clinical staff, and other pertinent disciplines within the hospital.Conduct ongoing assessments of clinical information systems. Identify gaps and opportunities in patient care needs, assist in the development of strategies for meeting these needs, and ensure that all computer systems are fully integrated into the clinical practice of each area utilizing these systems.Bring requests for changes in any application to the HSA Analysist Team. Assist in the testing and implementation of these change requests. Communicate any changes in Advanced Clinical Applications to the end users.In support of EHR implementation projects:Provide guidance to the HSA/SJMC IS project team in development of best practices and project impacts from a nursing perspective.Assist in testing applicationsInteract with CNO on HSA IS projects status progress and nursing-related issues and concerns.Work with hospital Nurse Managers and HSA IS core and site teams on current and future state workflow processes, training, and support.Provide support to other facility with respect to the HSA IS project.Provide oversight and support to ancillary enterprise groups by attending their meetings as needed.Provide oversight and support to other departments within the facility relating to the EHR.Provide support to the facility during system downtimes.Perform other duties as assigned.People:Collaborate with colleagues to ensure quality outcomes.Maintains visibility and open communication within the facility.Fosters a proactive approach to problem identification and resolution.Functions as an integral member of the Hospital Leadership team to elicit the full cooperation of managers accountable for clinical documentation, medication administration, and electronic reporting.Engages staff in participating I quality improvement activities related to the EHR and assist in developing a culture of quality regarding the EHR.Quality:Completes annual education requirements.Promotes the culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.Advocates for patient rights while supporting regulatory standards.Ensure that the development and dissemination of materials, policy, and training increase the understanding and skills necessary to build effective partnerships.Provide oversight and support for the overall planning, development, and implementation of new IS projects that support the delivery of care.Serves as an IS resource, including, but not limited to, answering questions regarding the EHR and is a documentation expert for regulation surveys.Works with individuals within the facility to establish and continually improve workflow related to the EHR and reporting data.Performs duties and responsibilities of the Hospital Contract Manager:Interact with all areas of the organization to coordinate contract management and contract administration.Facilitates resolution of contract issues, obtains legal review and approval of working changes in contract documentation.Research contract terms, alerting parties to renewals or extensions and tracking all communication between contract contact and various accounts.Identify proves improvements stated in the contracts ensure quality indicators are measured and evaluated in a timely manner.Report process improvements evaluations to appropriate quality committee.Works as a liaison between hospital leadership and the HSA legal team to monitor contracts and move forward with close-out, extension or renewal, based on the hospital's needs.Collaborate with healthcare practitioners and healthcare leaders in policy and program development, implementation and evaluation in facility design, in professional education, as well as delivery of care.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: EducationBachelor's degree in nursingExperience2 years' experience in direct patient care2 years of relevant experience working closely with EHRs, with detailed understanding of how the clinical and physician systems communicate/interact inn an acute care hospital.Certification/LicensureLicensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursingSoftware/HardwareMicrosoft OfficeOnline ApplicationsKnowledge/SkillsTeamworkCompliance with all facility and corporate policies and proceduresExcellent communication skills including written, verbal and demonstrated through presentation skillsExcellent leadership and teaching skillsStrong personal drive with ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, produce deliverables, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with little or no direct supervision.Preferred:Master's degree in Informatics (or progression to this degree)National Certification in Informatics as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center2 years' experience in nursing informaticsPrevious Leadership ExperienceBi or MultilingualHouston's oldest hospital is GROWING! Welcome to St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC), Houston's first and only downtown hospital delivering world-class care for the last 137 years and looking forward to the next century of exceptional care to Houstonians when they need us most. Whether it's for a scheduled surgery, the birth of a baby, an unexpected emergency, or an outpatient visit, we have staff available around the clock to provide you access to immediate, quality health care.
