The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia invites applications for a full-time, one-year, tenure-ineligible Clinical Instructor position in the Division of Transplant Surgery. The successful candidate will join a highly productive, collaborative abdominal transplant program at UVA Health dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and innovation.

Clinical responsibilities will include participation in the evaluation and management of transplant candidates and recipients, perioperative care, abdominal transplant procedures, and donor organ recovery. The Clinical Instructor will work closely with transplant surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing kidney, pancreas, liver, and multi-organ transplantation.

This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of abdominal transplantation, including recipient surgery, donor organ recovery, perioperative management, and longitudinal transplant care. Responsibilities will be aligned with the clinical needs of the Division and the individual"s experience and training.

As a member of the Division, the Clinical Instructor will participate in educational activities involving medical students, residents, and fellows and will have opportunities to engage in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, outcomes evaluation, and other scholarly pursuits.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency
  • Completion of, or anticipated completion of, an accredited Transplant Surgery Fellowship prior to the start date
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in kidney, pancreas, liver, and/or multi-organ transplantation
  • Interest in academic surgery and medical education
  • Experience in clinical research, quality improvement, or scholarly activity
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
