GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Enjoy a small-town atmosphere, with no state income tax and an average of 300 days of sunshine each year, with nearby access to skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities.

You will serve as a Health Facility Surveyor with the Health Care Surveillance Branch, Healthcare Licensing and Surveys, Wyoming Department of Health, conducting surveys and investigating complaints statewide according to Wyoming State Statutes and agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

  • Performs CLIA and health standard and abbreviated surveys such as initial licensure and certification surveys, recertification surveys, complaint investigations, and follow-up surveys.
  • Reviews CLIA CMS-116 applications and performs review of laboratory proficiency testing.
  • Ensure the survey process is implemented correctly and efficiently.
  • Interprets regulations and guidance from the State Operations Manual and other federal/state guidelines. Performs complaint intakes, assesses, and documents regulatory problems.
  • Determines regulatory category for complaint allegations.
  • Report findings to the Team Coordinator or, when working independently, to the Supervisor. Evaluate plans of correction and communicate approval or concerns to facility leadership.
  • Provides oral or written technical assistance to a variety of healthcare provider types.
  • Participates in service education, as well as other educational opportunities related to the survey process.
  • Extensive state-wide travel to and from survey sites.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Agency requires the successful applicant to be a laboratory or medical technologist, bacteriologist, microbiologist or chemist with experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.

KNOWLEDGE:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (typically in Healthcare)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites.
  • This position will require working from a home office (except Laramie County).

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • Wyoming Department of Health is an E-Verify employer

  • Flexible/Hybrid. This position will require working from home (except in Laramie County).

  • Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus

  • Temporary employees are accepting a full-time position.

  • Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.

  • Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.

  • Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.

  • If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
