Core Responsibilities:
As a surveyor with DLC's Medical Facilities Unit, you will be the sole Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 ("CLIA") surveyor, performing laboratory inspections of both federally certified and state licensed medical laboratories across Maine.
Your duties as the CLIA surveyor are to ensure medical laboratory services provided by hospitals, physicians' offices, and other lab locations in Maine comply with federal and state requirements. You will perform on-site routine inspections and complaint investigations. You will also provide consultation and guidance regarding regulatory compliance with both federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' ("CMS") Conditions of Participation, and with Maine State licensing requirements.
This position does require statewide travel and occasional overnight stays. Additionally, an occasional night or weekend survey may be necessary.
You will also:
- Complete reports, known as "Statements of Deficiencies," outlining any findings that facilities failed to comply with required rules/regulations;
- Interview complainants and witnesses;
- Participate in training, including mandatory online CMS training;
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or directly related life science, and six (6) years of clinical laboratory experience. Comparable experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred candidates will also have:- A current registration as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or equivalent, by a national accrediting agency.
- Knowledge of quality assurance principles, including sample and data management, audit procedures, and data validation;
- Knowledge of federal and Maine regulatory requirements for healthcare facilities.
