Job Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for performing clinical laboratory testing in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role involves conducting complex analyses, ensuring quality control, and supporting laboratory operations to deliver accurate and timely patient results.
The CLS plays a critical role in maintaining accuracy and compliance by evaluating test results, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory tests following established procedures
Prepare reagents, media, controls, and stock solutions and evaluate their effectiveness
Determine specimen acceptability and calculate test results using manual or computerized methods
Accurately enter and verify laboratory test results and maintain turnaround times
Evaluate test results and take action on critical or unexpected findings
Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment
Conduct quality control checks and ensure compliance with testing standards
Maintain accurate documentation and proficiency testing records
Support staff training and provide supervision to unlicensed personnel as needed
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings
Ensure proper handling, labeling, and disposal of laboratory materials and waste
Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment
Required Experience:
0–3 years of direct experience in a laboratory setting
Experience performing laboratory testing and quality control procedures
Ability to troubleshoot technical and operational issues
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
