Job Description and Duties
Performs technical work in Clinical Laboratory. Analyzes various types of specimens for various constituents, qualitatively and quantitatively, using various available methodologies, accurately, precisely, and in a timely manner. Validates reported results through active participation in performance and reporting of external proficiency testing programs, including the investigation and reporting of corrective actions for flagged results. Performs skin puncture procedures for obtaining blood specimens, accurately and efficiently, using appropriate personal and protective equipment and safety equipment. Performs venipuncture procedures for obtaining blood specimens, accurately and efficiently, using appropriate personal protective equipment and safety devices. Demonstrates at least an average ability and willingness to recognize, troubleshoot, and repair faulty equipment/instrumentation. Possess a valid Clinical Laboratory technologist's license or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health Services and/or American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) Obtains 12 Contact Hours of state-approved Continuing Education each calendar year, in or to maintain licensure.

Department Information
DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.

Benefits
All state civil service employees are currently subjected to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP), which entails a reduction in monthly gross salary but provides PLP leave credits in lieu of Pay through June 20, 2027. The amount of salary reduction is dependent upon the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU). The BU for this position is NAME UNION, subject to PERCENTAGE in salary reduction, accruing approximately 3-5 hours of PLP each month.
