Job Description

Position Summary:Under the direction of the Chairperson/Program Director and the Clinical Director of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the Student Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for managing the external practicum and placement components of the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program, ensuring compliance with all relevant professional and academic standards. This role also includes clinical supervision responsibilities at the Ladge Speech and Hearing Center.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Placement CoordinationIdentify, recruit, develop, maintain, and evaluate as many adult and pediatric practicum sites and qualified preceptors as needed to support the number of students enrolled in the program.Maintain effective communication with faculty, clinical and administrative staff, university personnel, students, and site supervisors Establish and maintain clinical affiliation agreements and insurance documentation with external sitesMaintain and update the External Supervisor ManualMeet regularly with students to provide guidance throughout the placement process and ensure appropriate site matchesCoordinate external clinical seminars and practicum experiences in accordance with ASHA and New York State requirementsMaintain an up-to-date database of external sites and supervisorsEvaluate sites and supervisors for quality assurance and use feedback for program improvementCollect and analyze student feedback regarding clinical placements and share relevant data with department leadershipAssist and monitor students in obtaining all pre-practicum credentials (e.g., health clearances, background checks, malpractice insurance) as required by placement sitesSupervise student progress at external sites, ensuring compliance with hour and documentation requirementsOversee the TSSLD certification process for studentsConduct site visits to assess quality of student experiencesCoordinate remediation plans and supervise students in special clinical circumstancesResolve conflicts related to placement or supervision in a timely and professional mannerReview and ensure accuracy and completeness of student clinical recordsPromote the program to potential new placement sites, including outreach and cold-calling initiativesOffer professional development opportunities to external supervisors, when availableClinical Supervision And Clinical Administrative Duties:Provide direct supervision of diagnostic and therapeutic services at the Ladge Speech and Hearing Center in accordance with ASHA, NYS, and internal guidelinesPrepare and deliver midterm and final evaluations of graduate student clinicians and review performance with students and the Clinical DirectorAssist in the development and maintenance of the Academic and Clinical HandbooksParticipate in accreditation activities and site visit preparationsContribute to outcome measurement initiatives and quality improvement effortsMaintain documentation and records in compliance with licensing and accreditation standardsAssist with clinic scheduling and coordinate the onboarding of new clients as neededPerform other related responsibilities as assigned by the Chairperson or Clinical DirectorQualifications:Master's degree in Speech-Language PathologyMinimum of 5 years of clinical experienceMinimum of 3 years of administrative or management experienceMinimum of 3 years of experience in clinical supervisionExperience with clinical placement coordination in speech-language pathology preferredASHA certification and New York State licensure in Speech-Language Pathology requiredRequired SkillsExcellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skillsStrong attention to detailOutstanding written and oral communication abilitiesProficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheets and databasesEffective interpersonal and clinical supervisory skillsAbout LIU Post: LIU Post campus is a scenic, historic, and scholarly campus that offers a small-school environment with the access and resources of a major metropolitan university.
