Clinical Placement Coordinator

Facilitates placement of undergraduate and graduate nursing students within clinical areas of Lahey Clinic.

Responsible for orientation of clinical instructors, both employee and non-employee.

Facilitates placement and orientation of senior nursing students completing capstone/practicum experiences at Lahey Clinic

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the Associate Chief for the Center for Clinical and Professional Development, the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager, the clinical educator practices within the Lahey Clinic Professional Practice Model, MA Nurse Practice Act, ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics and demonstrates Lahey Clinic's core values that reflect its Mission. The Clinical Educator promotes excellence in nursing practice by providing expert nursing care to patients and functions as a clinical/educational resource to nursing staff. The nurse-patient/family relationship, continuity of care and accountability are central to the delivery of individualized high quality patient care.

The Clinical Educator facilitates the coordination of care across the continuum and demonstrates safe practice within the domains of:

Clinical judgment and decision making

Nurse-patient/family relationship

Clinical leadership

Clinical scholarship

The Clinical Educator provides direct and indirect care to patients in collaboration with other health care team members. The Clinical educator maintains a current level of knowledge and skill with technical procedures as defined by nursing specialty organization complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies and is currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a registered nurse.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Clinical Judgment and Decision Making: Ways in which nurses come to understand the problems, issues or concerns of patients/families, to attend to salient/critical information, and to respond in concerned and involved ways.

A. Facilitates the nursing process (as outlined in the Tertiary RN job description):

B. Collaborates with staff nurses on the assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and documentation of nursing care.

C. Improves nursing practice by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient outcomes and standards of care.

D. Promotes excellence in nursing practice by providing expert nursing care to patients and functioning as a clinical resource to nursing staff

Nurse-patient/family relationship: A relationship that extends beyond formal assessment to integrate the particular patient's response and his/her religious/spiritual, ethnic and cultural beliefs into the plan of care.

A. Facilitates the establishment of a professional relationship with patients and family.

B. Teaches the patient and family about the patient's illness and treatment including preventative measures appropriate to the patient.

C. Facilitates the nurse/nurse relationship:1.

Clinical Leadership: The ability to lead and influence the reasoning of colleagues in the patient's best interest depends on skillful comportment, authoritative clinical knowledge and wisdom, the conviction to act as an ethical agent despite adverse consequences, and the ability to listen and enhance others' strengths. The registered nurse supports the development of others, creates a practice climate of responsiveness and learning (designer, teacher, steward).

A. Integrates the components of professional nursing practice by serving as role model. These components include clinical practice, consultation, collaboration, leadership, education, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.

B. Demonstrates professional behavior.

C. Adheres to practice guidelines specific to the setting.

D. Demonstrates skills as a responsive team member.

E. Upholds standards of quality nursing care.1.

Clinical Scholarship

A. Assumes role of an evidence-based practice champion.

B. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning.

C. Develops formal and informal educational programs to assist nursing staff with meeting performance expectations.

D. Serves as resource for students from affiliated schools of nursing and allied health.1.

Organizational Requirements

Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master of Science, Nursing or equivalent advanced degree in health-related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience in order to have full understanding of Nursing Education functions.

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or (ACLS) instructor certification.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Requires knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of Board of Registration approved nursing education program located within the United States or as certified by the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Experience: 5 years current, relevant nursing experience is required. An additional 1-3 years of training and education experience is required, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Pay Range:

$65,312.00 USD - $168,346.88 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
