UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Clinical Professional Development Specialist to support our Professional Development Department. This position will support our ICU Unit. Previous experience working in ICU, ED, or PACU is highly preferred. This is a Monday-Friday, dayshift position, but may need some flexibility for other shifts as needed; no weekends or holidays!
In this role, youll provide hands-on, real-time education and support directly on the unit - working side by side with nurses to strengthen skills, confidence, and outcomes. This is an ideal opportunity for a critical care nurse who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and being a visible resource for staff.
Responsibilities: • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring, support, and positive communication working directly with frontline clinical staff. • Conveys information and ideas clearly through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message. • Serves as a formal and informal mentor for new clinical staff members and mentor new preceptors to be successful in their role. • Responsible for unit-based onboarding and orientation. • Teaches staff how to manage the care of patients including assessment, interdisciplinary planning, implementation, evaluation of patient care, teaching, and discharge planning. • Identifies, communicates, and responds to meet the learning needs of clinical staff. • Serves as a resource/consultant for patients, nursing staff, and other disciplines in the area of specialty. • Promotes patient education needs for frontline clinical staff. • Participates in department-based Performance Improvement projects. • Participates in professional and community organizations. • Develops professional coaching and feedback skills to support and validate UPMC Experience initiatives not limited to Bedside Shift Report, Hourly Rounding, AIDET, etc. • Training/education of clinical staff during non-traditional work hours may be required based on the needs of assigned unit.
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. • UPMC approved certification preferred
