The Clinical Professional Development Specialist for the Cardiac Stepdown Department is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing educational initiatives that support high-quality, evidence-based patient care. Working in collaboration with the Vice President of Patient Services and department leadership, this role ensures nursing staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to deliver exceptional care to cardiac stepdown patients. The specialist serves as a key resource for clinical education, staff development, and continuous improvement within the department.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Collaborates with nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care standards
  • Oversees and coordinates orientation programs for new employees and supports preceptors in training and development
  • Provides education on high-risk and high-volume clinical skills using evidence-based practices
  • Conducts in-services, skills labs, and ongoing training to ensure staff competency and compliance
  • Communicates updates on procedures, standards, and new equipment to ensure staff readiness
  • Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs and revises content to improve outcomes
  • Builds strong relationships with medical staff, departments, and community partners to enhance patient care
  • Demonstrates leadership by mentoring staff, modeling professional behavior, and supporting a positive work environment
  • Participates in committees and projects to support organizational goals and continuous improvement
  • Assists with management responsibilities including budgeting awareness, problem-solving, and maintaining operational efficiency
Qualifications:

 

Education: Registered Nurse-Licensed and Registered in the State of Iowa

 

Experience:  3 Years of Acute Care Experience

 

License(s)/Certification(s):  State of Iowa RN, BCLS, ACLS, PALS or NRP.  Must be BCLS/ACLS/PALS instructor certified within first year of service.
