Department: Social and Behavioral Sciences

Duties & Responsibilities:

Participant Assessments and Data Collection:

  • Conduct assessments including collection of anthropometric, physical, interview, and survey data
  • Data quality control and management
  • Process samples for analysis in accordance with manualized procedures (e.g., blood, urine)
  • Assist with scheduling participant visits and retention activities
  • Maintain accurate regulatory and study documentation, including participant records.

Participant Recruitment, Screening and Retention:

  • Screen participants for study eligibility in accordance with trial protocol through community-based outreach and engagement activities
  • Conduct orientation and informed consent visits
  • Monitor rates of screening, enrollment, and ineligibility
  • Retain study participants for follow up visits
  • Work closely with lead Clinical Research Coordinator to manage day-to-day operations of ongoing studies.
  • Assist with preparation of study-related materials (e.g., recruitment flyers, advertisements, and intervention materials)
  • Support development of recruitment materials that are culturally and linguistically appropriate

Community Engagement Responsibilities

  • Foster trust and respectful communication with communities participating in the research
  • Assist with implementation of community-engaged research activities and community events
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to support study implementation

Intervention Materials:

  • Assist with adaptation of existing intervention content to meet needs of residents of income-based housing
  • Support the development of new intervention content to address health literacy

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Familiarity with the research process and principles of research design
  • Experience in clinical research or community-based research
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize autonomously, and possess strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment while consistently centering participants' needs and experience
  • Flexibility with work hours to include early mornings for assessments, as well as occasional weekends and evenings as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS or equivalent is preferred with a concentration in health sciences or a related field
  • Experience with REDCap
  • CITI certification in human subjects' research
  • Formal training and / or experience in community-engaged research

Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,000
