    The Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) is responsible for coordination of research studies conducted by Mercy Research. The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for the day-to-day operational tasks related to clinical trials and performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to, volunteer recruitment, drug/device/supply inventory maintenance, interaction with physicians, nurses, office staff, patients, and clinical monitors. Duties also include the collection, compilation, documentation and analysis of clinical research data while following local, state and federal regulations. The Clinical Research Nurse will assist in training and preceptor duties. The study load and complexity will increase from the Associate Clinical Research Nurse responsibility, thereby increasing the overall number of enrollments and visits. The Clinical Research Nurse will assist with communication and relationship building with sponsors and CROs.

    Position Summary

    The Clinical Research RN coordinates and conducts clinical trial activities while ensuring participant safety, protocol compliance, and accurate data collection. This role works closely with investigators, sponsors, and study participants to support successful research outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Coordinate clinical research activities and patient visits.
    • Screen, consent, educate, and monitor study participants.
    • Administer investigational products and perform protocol-required procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with study protocols, GCP, and regulatory requirements.
    • Collect, document, and maintain accurate study data and source records.
    • Process laboratory specimens and maintain study supplies.
    • Monitor participant safety and report adverse events as required.
    • Collaborate with investigators, sponsors, CROs, and research staff.
    • Support patient recruitment efforts and community outreach activities.
    • Assist with training and mentoring research team members.
    • Attend study meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Nursing Diploma, ADN, or BSN.
    • Current RN license in the state of practice.
    • BSN: 2+ years of nursing experience.
    • ADN/Diploma: 3+ years of nursing experience.
    • Experience performing patient assessments, vital signs, ECGs, spirometry, phlebotomy, or willingness to learn.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer applications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 2+ years of clinical research experience.
    • Phlebotomy experience.
    • Knowledge of clinical trial protocols, GCP, and regulatory requirements.

    About Company

    Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1871, they traveled to St. Louis and from there throughout the Midwest, beginning what would, today be known as Mercy.
