Job summary

Band 5 ED Research Nurse.

If you have a background or interest in Emergency Medicine and want to join this innovative and exciting speciality, then we are offering a unique and exciting opportunity to become part of the clinical research delivery team here within the ED.

The ED Research Team coordinate a wide range of studies from Emergency care, Trauma, orthopaedics, mental health, elderly care, and medicine, both with adults and children, and work closely alongside all speciality teams to deliver best patient care.

The role involves day to day care of participants and clinical studies including screening, recruitment and follow up.

Our team derives from a variety of backgrounds to create a multidisciplinary research team working together to deliver emergency care and front door research to a wide range of patients presenting to University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust from Plymouth and surrounding area.

  • Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and At Risk status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.*

Main duties of the job

  • The Clinical Research Nurse / Practitioner will work as part of the clinical research team within the Emergency Department to support the safe conduct of research in in accordance with the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice guidelines and provide assurance that the rights, safety and well-being of trial participants are protected.
  • The post-holder will work with the Emergency Department Research team to plan, implement, organise and manage concurrent research projects. S/he will develop networks with Multidisciplinary Teams across the Trust and other appropriate local and national agencies. S/he will coordinate and manage the relevant study portfolio and deliver recruitment accrual in line with performance and monitoring objectives.
  • To develop skills of leadership and act as a role model to staff members.
  • To be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the clinical requirements associated with research to ensure optimum delivery of clinical trials.
  • You will ensure that all research procedures are conducted according to study protocols and will be accountable for the recruitment, data collection and care of research participants with a focus on providing a quality experience.
  • Contribute towards the continuing development of professional nursing practice in the Emergency Department.
