Job Title - Clinical Laboratory Scientist (2nd shift role)
Contract- 4+ Months of contract with possibility of extension
Location- Santa Rosa, California 95403
Responsibilities
Adequately display the knowledge and ability to carry out approved tests in compliance with department objectives, State of California regulations, and CLIA requirements.
Perform laboratory tests in accordance with laboratory standard procedures, applying knowledge, expertise, and sound judgment in the final review and certification of results prior to release.
Safely handle hazardous materials while observing all safety rules and regulations to minimize the risk of exposure. Promptly report incidents, near misses, and chemical spills to EH&S.
Apply high-quality scientific techniques to evaluate test results, ensuring their accuracy, validity, and defensibility.
Review calibration and Quality Control (QC) results to ensure they meet specification limits and that appropriate corrective actions are taken before releasing donor test results.
Investigate inconsistent laboratory results and communicate findings to the appropriate team so corrective actions can be implemented, including halting production if necessary.
Monitor QC performance for shifts and trends, recommending corrective actions as needed.
Clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate analytical equipment according to manufacturer specifications and CLIA requirements.
Maintain accurate documentation for calibration, QC acceptance, equipment maintenance, specimen handling, and result certification.
Assist in investigations related to specimen handling procedures, analytical testing, production issues, and other quality incidents as required by the Department Manager.
Assist in the development and approval of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and departmental protocols.
Provide assistance, supervision, training, and support for Unlicensed Testing Personnel, ensuring continued competency in accordance with California state requirements.
Attend seminars and training programs as needed to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and fulfill California CLS continuing education requirements.
Follow all new and revised laboratory procedures as directed by the Department Manager, General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, or Laboratory Director.
Provide general or direct supervision of Laboratory General Personnel and Clerical Personnel, as required by laboratory laws and regulations, in the absence of the Department Manager, General Supervisor, and Laboratory Director.
Function as a Technical Supervisor in accordance with CLIA regulations and assist the Quality team with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities consistent with the Laboratory Quality Plan.
Basic Qualifications | Education
Must be licensed by the State of California under BPC, Chapter 3 as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist, Toxicologist, or Chemist).
Bachelor's Degree in Science is required.
Preferred: Minimum 2 years of experience in a toxicology laboratory working with mass spectrometry; however, 5 years of general clinical laboratory experience with knowledge of toxicology will also be considered.
Must have strong pipetting and computer skills, with the ability to learn Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Must possess a strong work ethic and commitment to safety, compliance, and quality.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences and provide coaching to peers and subordinates.
Ability to work in a flexible environment, moving between the laboratory and office while managing constant interruptions and support requests.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience reviewing LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS mass spectrometry data within a toxicology laboratory setting.
