JOB SUMMARY

Perform a variety of technical procedures involved in the drawing, processing and shipment of patient specimens in an ambulatory care setting. Serve as the office liaison related to the lab process and communication with processing laboratory..

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures to include venipuncture, techniques using standard equipment to include vaccutainer tubes, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.

· Provide technical training to Medical Technology students and other clinical staff assigned to work area.

· Confer with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.

· Utilize standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification; record appropriate collection information on proper requisitions.

· Perform various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.

· Centrifuge, label and store blood samples for subsequent analysis by Clinical Laboratory staff.

· Maintain inventory of supplies and reorder as needed based off stocked supplies; stock supplies.

· Obtain training to perform resting ECGs.

· Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

· Work requires an educational background generally equivalent to a high school education.

· Certification as a Phlebotomist by a nationally *recognized board/agency and eligibility or completion of the Duke University Phlebotomy certification program is also required.

· BLS (provided during orientation if not already certified

· Must have at least 2 years experience as a Clin Tech I or Certification as a Phlebotomist plus achieve required competency level for specified job responsibilities.

 

JOB HOURS 

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
