Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Cytology Manager and evening Supervisor, assist in daily preparation of gynecological specimens; support patient registration team in all activities, including but not limited to: accessioning, registration, triage, transport of specimens, filing (slides, blocks, documents, etc).
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hrs., 4PM-12AM, Holidays and recess period required may be required in rotation.
Essential Duties
Case intake of specimens/ triage (includes use of EPIC/Beaker and Tubetracker programs)
Accession gyn specimens and ancillary testing added to them using Copath.
Call in any problem cases to clients as well as communication with pathology attendings/residents when needed.
Performs specialized laboratory tests and procedures in the cytology molecular division, records results, interprets and analyzes results of molecular tests and procedures.
Send back any problem cases to clients needed
Look up any issues in EPIC/ print off paperwork needed in EPIC
Prepare samples for molecular testing using pipetting techniques
Label and coverslip slides, both manually and with use of the slide stainer and coverslip instrument.
Use of Histology Asset Tracking System (HAT)
Filing slides
Follows all HIPAA privacy regulations at all times
Comply with Safety protocols at all times
Perform additional duties incidental to laboratory function.
Provide coverage in Histology, IHC and grossing.
Provide cross-coverage and support in other laboratory areas as operational needs require, with appropriate training provided.
Required Skills and Abilities
Ability to multitask and problem solve.
Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff.
Demonstrated understanding of molecular testing.
Demonstrated understanding in grossing surgical specimens for histology.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
A Bachelor of Science with at least 26 credit hours in Biology or Chemistry.
Experience with CoPath and EPIC.
