    Job Summary

    The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is seeking a full-time clinical-track faculty member to work in Ambulatory Psychiatry to focus on psychotherapy treatment of sleep disorders in adults. The U-M Department of Psychiatry involves more than 170 faculty, robust research programs, busy general and subspecialized clinical programs, and clinical and research training opportunities.

    The ideal candidate for this position will focus on provision of high-quality clinical care and education for adults with sleep disorders and can include other diagnostic domains, e.g., anxiety disorders, mood disorders, based on skill and interest. The candidate will share in teaching responsibilities of interdisciplinary learners including pre-doctoral practicum students and interns, post-doctoral fellows, and clinical social work fellows, medical residents and fellows. Care will be provided directly to patients in a one on one setting as well as potentially through group therapy.

    In addition to direct patient care, our faculty have the opportunity to:

    • Participate in or lead quality improvement and research efforts

    • Provide mentorship, didactic teaching, and engage in patient care activities with learners in related disciplines.

    Educational Activities

    Teaching and training opportunities abound within the Adult Psychiatry Program. Psychologists regularly act as outpatient supervisors and preceptors for adult psychiatry, psychology, and social work interns and fellows; psychiatric house staff; mid-level providers; pediatric house staff and/or practicum and medical students. Additional educational opportunities include providing didactic lectures for multidisciplinary trainees and offering clinical skills verification as indicated. There will be opportunities to teach in core curriculum, mentorships in psychotherapy, medical student teaching, and journal clubs. The successful candidate will also be involved in interdisciplinary trainee recruitment and interviewing.

    Administration:

    The successful candidate will be expected to attend Faculty Meetings within the Department of Psychiatry; at minimum this will include regular meetings of the Academic Staff, All-Staff, Psychology Faculty Meetings, and other administrative meetings deemed necessary by their reporting supervisor. In addition to timely attention to pertinent administrative work (e.g., electronic medical record and in-basket monitoring, phone calls, letters, records, e-mails, etc.), the new faculty member will participate in all relevant quality improvement initiatives and activities.

    Required Qualifications*

    A PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology with specialized training in sleep psychology is required. Possession of a current license to practice in the State of Michigan is necessary. Completion of an APA-accredited graduate program and pre-doctoral internship and completion of a postdoctoral fellowship is required. Applicants must have demonstrated promise for an academic career that emphasizes clinical care, teaching, and administration. Superior clinical competencies and master teacher skills are necessary and be an active member in good standing of the University of Michigan Medical Staff. Comfort with providing mental health care to patients with significant physical health or developmental needs is necessary.

    Desired Qualifications*

    Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine certification is desirable.

    Modes of Work

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

    Background Screening

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

    In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
