Mosaic Life Care (MLC) participates in clinical training experiences for students to provide clinical rotations in community-based settings. NWMO Area Health Education Center (AHEC) coordinates clinical training rotations for medical, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students. The Clinical Training Coordinator coordinates medical student rotations, compiling and maintaining information required by accrediting bodies on liability insurance, immunizations, background checks, education, etc. The Clinical Training Coordinator also identifies and schedules appropriate preceptors for the students. The Clinical Training Coordinator must also maintain a relationship with the sending professional schools to understand the requirements for the rotations, including preceptor approval processes, rotation objectives and length, requirements, and the evaluation process. Not only does the Clinical Training Coordinator need to have a knowledge of these requirements but also helps keep the preceptors up to date. The Clinical Training Coordinator provides an orientation to each clinical training student as they begin their rotations. The orientation includes any regulatory requirements at Mosaic Life Care, access to the electronic medical record, badge access to departments, contact with preceptors, etc. This position is also responsible for entering clinical rotation data into APEX, the Missouri AHEC statewide database, tracking student progress from health professions student to practicing provider. The Clinical Training Coordinator position works under the general direction of the AHEC Director and works/communicates closely with other AHEC coordinators, MLC leadership, physicians, and the UMKC School of Medicine.

  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Serves as the point of contact between NWMO AHEC and UMKC School of Medicine acting as a liaison between students and hospital staff/administration when necessary. The Clinical Training Coordinator and UMKC communicate regarding rotations, requirements such as immunizations, background checks, student certifications, etc. to ensure all information is provided prior to the arrival of the student on site, meeting the requirements of Mosaic Life Care. Keeps complete files on students for review by regulatory/governing bodies as requested.
  • Upon student assignment, prepares the schedule by confirming preceptor availability, and throughout the year providing reminders to preceptors, clinic managers, and students as appropriate for approximately 60-70 medicals students. Coordinate schedule changes and communicate changes with applicable parties. Analyzes student needs regarding required rotations and electives.
  • Onboard new students, including requesting student logins, coordinating EMR training, requesting badge access and coordinating orientation. Assist in troubleshooting EMR access. Schedule and coordinate required classes such as Scrub class, BLS, ACLS, etc. for the students. Complete new elective course requirement forms.
  • Track, report, and ensure compliance with annual UMKC/Mosaic preceptor contracts. Responsible for the credentialing of UMKC preceptors for physicians to receive faculty appointment to teach students.
  • Assist with scheduling physicians for workshops, didactics, journal club, active learning, etc. Assist in planning Inter-Professional Education (IPE) events. An understanding of IPE and its core competencies is required of the Clinical Training Coordinator.
  • Along with the Executive Director and AHEC Medical Director, Identifies, develops, and supports preceptor relationships in Northwest Missouri in the provision of clinical training opportunities for discipline-specific, multi-and interdisciplinary training of undergraduate and graduate health profession students identify additional preceptors continuously, complying with the appropriate preceptor approval process.
  • Enter clinical rotation data into the statewide database (APEX) used for reporting requirements.
  • Manage follow up of preceptor evaluations of the students, program, faculty, and rotations.
  • Assist with coordination of job shadows for the UMKC Rural Pathway students with the AHEC Health Professions Coordinator
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the maintenance of filing, record keeping, distribution of materials, and other types of office/program systems. Evaluate and standardize office procedures and effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Coordinates and maintains a system to monitor health profession students completing rotations in the NWMO AHEC region and maintains contact with students to assess career choices and practice locations.
  • Other duties as assigned
