Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Collaborating with medical providers and the care team, you will provide personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care following established nursing models such as Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage. You will also act as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, embodying the organizations vision, mission, and values to ensure an outstanding patient experience and positive clinical outcomes.

About the Unit

This is a fast-paced 15-bed inpatient unit where you will see a mixture of transitional patients, including but not limited to new admissions, neuro patients, ED, and Telemetry care. You are eligible to receive your NIHS upon hire. We offer a comprehensive orientation process with highly supportive and experienced staff that provide education within the specialty.

Essential Job Functions

1. Applies Nursing Judgment

• Applies nursing judgment through a thorough systematic approach of applying the nursing process to include:

• Assessment

• Conducts comprehensive, timely, and ongoing focused physical, psycho-social, and pain assessments, including assessment of patient education needs.

• Identifies problems, makes nursing diagnoses, formsulates goals, teaching plans, and outcomes to create an individualized plan of care.

• Incorporates family into the plan of care.

  2. Collaborates with Patient Care Team Members

• Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plans, communicates timely and effectively with physicians and other members of the patient care team through verbal, written, or electronic communication to coordinate and facilitate meeting patient needs.

• Incorporates consistent use of hand-off communication and SBAR communication methods.

  3. Demonstrates Critical Thinking Skills

• Demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and organizational skills.

• Prioritizes tasks and adjusts priorities when necessary.

• Maintains an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients.

• Recognizes and reports errors and unusual occurrences and analyzes contributing factors.

• Initiates corrective action when appropriate.

  4. Maintains Current Nursing Knowledge

• Maintains current nursing knowledge to assure a safe working environment.

• Demonstrates practical application of all policies and procedures relative to safety and the pillars of Methodist Excellence, including:

• Applicable quality core measures

• Infection prevention

• Fall prevention

• Medication administration

• Safety

• Hourly rounding

• AIDET principles

  5. Supervises Tasks Delegated to Unlicensed Personnel

• Responsible for supervising tasks delegated to unlicensed personnel and accountable for tasks performed by unlicensed personnel according to the Texas BON rules for delegated nursing tasks, Chapter 224.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma Required
• Bachelors Degree in Nursing Preferred
• Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse required
• One (1) year of Telemetry nursing or other acute care nursing experience as a licensed Registered Nurse highly preferred
