Closing Head Lifeguard

Join our team as a Closing Head Lifeguard! Help keep our pool safe and fun while leading the closing shift. We're looking for a responsible and experienced lifeguard to supervise staff, enforce safety rules, and ensure a smooth closing process each day. Perfect fora strong leader with excellent communication skills and a passion for water safety! Incumbent is called upon to handle a significant amount of details, each varying from the other in substance and content, and approach workload with flexibility.

Pay range: $21.00 - $30.00/hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, consisting of up to 19 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions:

Oversees the activities of lifeguards, instructors, coaches, and other program providers at pool and/or pond sites to ensure safety protocols are being followed; addresses observed issues promptly; advises management of problems, violations, and areas for improvement related to policies and procedures. Supervises lifeguards, ensuring all work is performed in compliance with established policies and procedures and applicable safety regulations.

Maintains watchfulness over pools and ponds to prevent dangerous situations. Monitors and assists swimmers and enforces regulations. Provides basic first aid. Performs rescue if appropriate, calls for help, provides emergency care, interviews witnesses, and files reports.

Assists in the daily closing of the pool/waterfront, tests pools for proper chlorine and pH levels, and sets up lanes. Assists in the daily closing of the pool/waterfront. Checks facilities for vacancy at the end of the day; picks up any possessions left behind. Performs weekly tests of all emergency call boxes with the Concord Police Department to ensure proper connection and audibility. Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested. Performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation dictates. Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

White Pond Responsibilities (Seasonal)

Addresses all environmental, guest and staff concerns effectively and efficiently. Maintains beach policies and procedures to ensure professional standards of operation. Makes weather related decisions in coordination with the Waterfront Director. Oversees beachfront office operations including all financial transactions and daily reconciliation. Conducts a daily check of facility for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Guarantees adequate coverage of the swim area by lifeguards during all hours of operation.

Emerson Pool Responsibilities (Seasonal)

Oversees campers grades K-7, with and without disabilities, while they participate in pool lessons and free swim. Oversees the management of documentation required for camper swim tests, making appropriate referrals to families for Beede Swim lesson opportunities. Works with the Camp Director to schedule all camp groups time at the pool, weekly. Consistently communicates with counselors, directors, specialists, nurse and parents regarding campers' daily experiences. Enforces rules, regulations, and policies to ensure safety of all children in attendance. Builds relationships with campers to foster friendly, supportive and nurturing group dynamics. Schedules lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage for all times of operation with particular attention to programs and events.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Directly supervises the activities and performance of lifeguards and provides functional oversight to other aquatics staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Concord's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education & Experience:

High School education and one to three years lifeguarding and/or pool supervision experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED. Certification required. Valid motor vehicle operator's license, with a safe driving record and ability to provide personal vehicle for occasional transportation during work hours.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Working knowledge of multi-pool aquatic facility, procedures and equipment. Thorough working knowledge of ability to perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid. Ability to swim. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner and to fairly and tactfully enforce facility rules and regulations.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Moderate physical effort is generally required which involves frequent lifting of between 30 and 60 pounds. Additional physical effort is required in emergency situations to perform rescue/lifesaving activities. Regularly required to walk, swim, stand, crouch, reach, crawl, climb, talk, sit, watch and hear for extended periods of time. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects or equipment. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges. Work is performed in varied environments including those of a large multi-pool aquatic facility, an outdoor camp pool, and a pond waterfront; includes exposure to various weather conditions and pool chemicals. Noise is moderate to loud at times.
