Cloud Engineer – Federal Technology
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Cloud Engineers to support modern technology and digital transformation initiatives within a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) environment.
We are looking for cloud professionals with strong hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating secure, scalable, and automated cloud environments. The positions will support cloud-native engineering, infrastructure automation, application modernization, integration, security, and operational efficiency.
We are seeking candidates with AWS or Microsoft Azure as their primary cloud platform. Experience with both platforms is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable cloud-native environments using AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for cloud infrastructure and application environments.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operational processes.
• Improve cloud resource utilization, reliability, scalability, availability, and cost efficiency.
• Support application modernization and migration to cloud-native environments.
• Develop and implement cloud architectures that minimize unnecessary vendor lock-in and support portability where appropriate.
• Integrate cloud environments with existing enterprise systems, applications, data platforms, and services.
• Collaborate with enterprise architects, solution architects, software engineers, DevOps/DevSecOps engineers, security teams, data professionals, and product teams.
• Implement security, privacy, compliance, and governance requirements throughout cloud environments.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational controls to improve reliability and performance.
• Troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure, deployment, networking, and application issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve automation, eliminate manual processes, and reduce operational costs.
• Contribute to technical documentation, architecture artifacts, procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
• Support Agile and cross-functional product teams in delivering and continuously improving digital capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend solutions based on mission needs, technical feasibility, security, scalability, and cost.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure as a primary cloud platform.
• Production experience designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) such as Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with cloud automation, deployment, configuration management, and CI/CD.
• Experience with cloud security and implementation of security and compliance requirements.
• Experience with containerization and/or orchestration technologies.
• Understanding of cloud-native architecture, scalability, reliability, networking, and operational practices.
• Experience troubleshooting production cloud environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government or DOJ technology initiatives.
• AWS GovCloud or Azure Government experience.
• Experience with both AWS and Azure.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Experience implementing cloud security controls, automated security testing, and DevSecOps practices.
• Demonstrated experience reducing cloud infrastructure costs and improving resource utilization.
• Experience with cloud migration and application modernization.
• Experience designing architectures that reduce unnecessary vendor lock-in and promote portability.
• Experience with automated CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code testing.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or comparable certification.
• Experience working within Agile, product-oriented, cross-functional engineering teams.
• Experience improving a team's cloud/DevOps delivery maturity.
• Experience developing training materials and knowledge-transfer artifacts.

Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
The posted range reflects the Sky's reasonable estimate at the time of posting and does not guarantee a specific salary or rate. Final compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and applicable contractual and business considerations.
