Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (Azure, AVD & Microsoft 365)
Location: Washington, DC 20035. Remote for first 120 days then hybrid / client sites
Clearance: Active Must have an active Public Trust or higher to start. Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret

Position Overview
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a key member of the Information Technology Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) team responsible for the administration, support, optimization, and ongoing evolution of the organization's Microsoft cloud environment. This role is heavily focused on Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Microsoft 365, identity management, automation, and operational reliability.
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will provide hands-on technical expertise for cloud infrastructure initiatives while also participating in daily operational support activities. The role requires strong technical troubleshooting abilities, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to independently analyze and resolve complex issues across interconnected systems and the ability to work with highly sensitive information and data with high levels of confidentiality and accountability.
In addition to operational responsibilities, this role will contribute to cloud architecture, platform planning, standards development, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that the cloud environment remains secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
Education and Experience
" High School diploma or GED required.
" Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field preferred, a satisfactory combination of experience and education may be considered
" 5+ years of progressive experience supporting IT Infrastructure and Operations environments.
" 2+ years of hands-on experience supporting Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments including FSLogix configuration and troubleshooting.
" Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration including compute, storage, networking, monitoring, security, and governance.
" Practical experience with Microsoft 365 administration including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
" Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity, Microsoft Entra Connect Sync, and identity/access management concepts.
" Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
" Understanding of backup, recovery, resiliency, and high availability concepts within Microsoft cloud environments.
" Experience implementing and supporting secure cloud configurations and operational security best practices.
" Experience monitoring and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure performance, reliability, and operational issues.
" Understanding of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) related to Azure Virtual Desktop security, optimization, and automation.
" Ability to learn and adapt to evolving technologies, operational requirements, and business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
" Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator and Microsoft 365 Administrator.
" Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or cloud monitoring and optimization platforms such as ControlUp.
" Experience with enterprise email security platforms such as Proofpoint.
" Familiarity with Microsoft Intune, Conditional Access, and Microsoft Defender technologies.
" Experience supporting legacy Microsoft technologies including Windows Server and SQL Server.
" Experience working within regulated or security-conscious environments.

Primary Responsibilities
Azure and Microsoft 365 Administration
" Administer, support, and optimize Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments, including virtual machines, storage, networking, identity, and collaboration services.
" Manage and maintain Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
" Administer Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity integrations, and access management technologies.
" Monitor cloud infrastructure and services to ensure performance, availability, and operational stability
" Support cloud governance, resource organization, and operational best practices within the Microsoft ecosystem.
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Administration
" Administer and support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments to ensure performance, availability, security, and reliability.
" Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot FSLogix profiles and related user experience technologies.
" Manage AVD host pools, session hosts, images, application delivery, and user access.
" Monitor and optimize virtual desktop performance and end-user experience.
" Implement and maintain AVD operational and security best practices.
Cloud Engineering and Architecture
" Participate in the planning, design, and implementation of Microsoft cloud infrastructure solutions aligned with organizational requirements.
" Evaluate cloud technologies, services, and architectural approaches to improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
" Assist in developing and maintaining cloud standards, operational procedures, and infrastructure documentation.
" Contribute to infrastructure modernization and continuous improvement initiatives.
" Recommend improvements to existing cloud configurations, processes, and operational practices.
Automation, Operations, and Support
" Develop and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell, scripting, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles to improve consistency, efficiency, and reliability.
" Manage patching, updates, maintenance, backup, recovery, and operational support activities for cloud-based systems and services.
" Diagnose and resolve performance, reliability, security, and operational issues across cloud infrastructure and associated systems.
" Support incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and service restoration activities.
" Participate in after-hours maintenance and operational support activities as required.
Security, Compliance, and Documentation
" Implement, document and maintain secure configuration standards and operational security best practices across Microsoft cloud services.
" Support identity security, conditional access, monitoring, and platform hardening initiatives.
" Assist with compliance, audit, and data protection requirements related to cloud systems and services.
" Maintain accurate technical documentation, operational procedures, and system configurations.
" Collaborate with cybersecurity, networking, and desktop support personnel to ensure secure and integrated operations.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
" Work closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to identify technology improvements and operational efficiencies.
" Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users to support business operations and service delivery.
