Job Summary: Cloud Engineering team is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer with deep, hands-on expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to design, deploy, secure, and maintain cloud-based solutions that support critical utility operations. In this role, you will serve as a key technical contributor collaborating across infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, data, and operational technology (OT) teams. You will help drive the modernization of enterprise systems while ensuring high availability, reliability, security, and regulatory compliance across hybrid cloud environments. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering mindset, a passion for automation, and proven experience delivering cloud architectures in mission-critical, regulated environments — ideally within the energy, utilities, or critical infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect, deploy, and manage scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available cloud infrastructure across AWS and OCI platforms.
  • Design and implement hybrid cloud connectivity solutions integrating cloud environments with on-premises data centers.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or OCI Resource Manager.
  • Configure and manage cloud networking components including VPCs, subnets, route tables, VPNs, Transit Gateways, load balancers, and DNS services.
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud services, architectures, and patterns aligned with technology roadmap and business objectives.
  • Lead cloud capacity planning, cost optimization, and resource governance initiatives.
Cloud Operations & Support
  • Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, cost, and security using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, OCI Monitoring, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, network, and application-related issues in production environments.
  • Manage patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance activities for cloud-hosted systems.
  • Design and implement backup, disaster recovery (DR), and business continuity (BCP) solutions meeting defined RTO/RPO objectives.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations for production systems, ensuring rapid incident response and resolution.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Security & Compliance
  • Implement and enforce cloud security best practices aligned with utility industry standards and cybersecurity policies.
  • Design and manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) frameworks, role-based access controls (RBAC), and least-privilege policies across AWS and OCI.
  • Support and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including:
    • NERC CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection)
    • SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act)
    • PCI-DSS (where applicable)
    • Corporate Cybersecurity Policies and Standards
  • Conduct cloud security assessments, vulnerability remediation, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Collaborate with the Cybersecurity team on cloud governance frameworks, security architecture reviews, and audit readiness.
  • Implement data encryption, secrets management, and network security controls (security groups, NACLs, WAF, etc.).
Automation & DevOps
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated cloud infrastructure deployments and application releases.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and operational tasks using:
    • Terraform / OpenTofu
    • Ansible
    • GitHub Actions
    • Jenkins
    • Azure DevOps
  • Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions to proactively detect and respond to system anomalies.
  • Champion DevSecOps practices, embedding security controls into automated deployment pipelines.
  • Develop reusable automation frameworks and cloud modules to accelerate delivery across teams.
Utility Systems Integration
  • Support cloud-hosted and cloud-integrated utility applications, including:
    • Customer Information Systems (CIS)
    • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
    • Outage Management Systems (OMS)
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
    • Energy Management Systems (EMS)
    • Data Analytics and AI/ML Platforms
  • Architect and implement secure integration patterns between enterprise IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
  • Collaborate with application and data teams to optimize cloud-hosted workloads for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Documentation & Governance
  • Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain cloud standards, policies, and governance frameworks in alignment with enterprise architecture.
  • Support internal and external audits and compliance reviews, providing documentation and evidence as required.
  • Actively participate in cloud architecture review boards and contribute to long-term technology roadmap planning.
  • Mentor junior cloud engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing and capability development.
 Experience
  • 7+ years of progressive cloud engineering experience in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise with AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, EKS, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) (Compute, Networking, Object Storage, IAM, OKE, etc.).
  • Proven experience supporting mission-critical production systems with high availability requirements.
  • Strong background in Linux and Windows serveradministration.
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, security architecture, and hybrid connectivity (VPN, Direct Connect, FastConnect).
  • Experience with IaC tools (Terraform strongly preferred).
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks (NERC CIP, SOX, or similar).
  Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • Equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered.

Notes:
  • The team is part of the cloud engineering team. Mainly use AWS. Onboard other teams into Cloud. Additionally, need Oracle Cloud experience. Planning to move to Oracle Cloud, need to work with the design and development of this project. The project will likely be 4-5 years long. This person will collaborate with other teams, including architecture, to design the implementation.
  • Work with the team and stories (agile team). 3-month PI programming. Will work with existing lead cloud engineers to work on stories.
  • 2 must-have skills: OCI, AWS
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on recent experience using Oracle Cloud implementation.
