Job Description Summary

Our CHS Outpatient Clinic Float Team offers a unique opportunity for Certified Medical Assistants who enjoy variety, flexibility, and growth. CHS Clinic Float team members support multiple outpatient clinics across our ambulatory network, stepping in where help is needed most. This position requires reliable transportation for traveling throughout the Tri-County region of Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley. Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

CMA Minimum Training and Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.

CMA Required Licensure and/or Certifications

• American Medical Technologist (AMTA) • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) • National Health Career Association (NHCA) • MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1) • National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Additional Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA recognized equivalent, or an American Red Cross (ARC) CPRAED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Examples include:

  • To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force.
  • For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker.
  • 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet.
  • 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.

Ability to maintain:

  • 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes.
  • Continuous Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
  • Continuous Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
  • Continuous Ability to determine distance and relationship between objects, depth perception.
