The Clinic Support Float is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care in a family medicine setting. Responsibilities include obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, assisting providers with procedures, performing specimen collection and point-of-care testing, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record. The role is cross-trained to support front desk operations, including patient check-in and check-out, insurance verification, scheduling, and patient communication, while collaborating with the care team to support continuity of care and clinic operations.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but not limited to: 

 

  • Provides clinical and administrative support to assigned providers to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs, medical histories, pain assessments, and medication lists; prepares patients for examinations and assists with procedures as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Prepares, cleans, and maintains exam rooms and medical equipment, adhering to safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and coordinates laboratory testing, referrals, diagnostic procedures, and admissions as ordered.
  • Assists with medication management activities, including prescription processing and refills, utilizing best practices to reduce medication errors.
  • Performs patient triage, including telephone triage, and responds with appropriate urgency based on patient condition or level of distress.
  • Navigates the EPIC EMR efficiently to support clinical operations, quality care management, continuity of care, and timely follow-up.
  • Answers incoming calls, routes calls appropriately, and documents accurate messages or telephone encounters, ensuring duplicate encounters are avoided.
  • Provides back-up support for front desk operations, including patient check-in and check-out, appointment scheduling, and patient communication.
  • Verifies patient demographics and insurance coverage, collects co-pays and required documentation, and ensures accuracy prior to services being rendered.
  • Maintains confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards when handling patient information in both clinical and front desk settings.
  • Demonstrates initiative, strong interpersonal and communication skills, age-specific competencies, the ability to multitask efficiently, and the ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative team members to support smooth clinic operations and continuity of care.
Qualifications:

 

CMA / RMA: Graduate of accredited program of Certified Medical Assistants with a active CMA certification. Prefer at least one year of clinical experience in family care practice.

LPN -Graduate of accredited program of Licensed Practical Nurse. Prefer at least one year of clinical experience in family care practice. 

Knowledge of Medication prior authorizations. Experience with the Epic EMR, office skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and insurance terminology is preferred. Excellent communication and computer skills required. Self-starter, highly motivated candidate with friendly, outgoing personality, and excellent customer service skills required. Extensive knowledge of various health insurance plans preferred.
