    Job Description Summary

    Full-time CMA or LPN for growing Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery clinic position. The CMA or LPN will report to the Ambulatory Services Manager and excel at multi-tasking, efficiency, teamwork and collaboration. This position is responsible for assisting in examination and treatment of Pediatric Orthopedic surgery patients, use of EMR, and preparing patient for provider visit.     MUSC Summey Medical Pavilion is a pediatric outpatient clinic that falls under the Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital at MUSC. During the day, we host a variety of pediatric subspecialists. In addition to that, we provide a walk-in After Hours Care, which is a direct extension of our pediatric emergency department to serve our community during the hours when most pediatricians are closed.

    Job Description

    The Peds Orthopedic Surgery CMA and/or LPN reports to the Ambulatory Services Manager. The CMA and/or LPN perform multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of pediatric orthopedic surgery patients under the direction of a physician, interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical records. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

    Schedule: Shift schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8am – 430pm.  Closed on holidays and weekends. 

    Pediatric experience preferred.  Orthopedic experience also preferred.

    Minimum Education and Requirements: Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience required. Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state. A current CPR card is required; either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card. Ability to demonstrate commitment to patient centered care philosophy as evidenced by effective communications skills, professional demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability and motivation to articulate and support departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be computer literate. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

(Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
