JOB SUMMARY

Job Summary: Under the general direction of a higher official in the Board of Education or Office of Operations, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning units in city and school facilities, installs and calibrates temperature control devices; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Repairs and maintains fuel burning, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Installs heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Installs piping, wiring and any hardware related to H.V.A.C. equipment.
  • Calibrates any and all boiler room and temperature control equipment.
  • Changes and evacuates air conditioning systems and adjusts combustion equipment.
  • Reads blueprints and schematic drawings pertinent to H.V.A.C. equipment.
  • Advises supervisors on technical matters.
  • Exercises supervision over semi-skilled helper, when necessary.
  • Maintains adequate parts inventory.
  • Performs emergency repairs after normal working hours, when required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and concepts of, steam, forced air, hydronic and air conditioning systems.
  • Skill in the use of tools relating to heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Ability to interpret wiring schematics and diagrams.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: Licensed by the State of Connecticut to perform heating, piping and cooling work as an Unlimited Contractor (S-1) or Unlimited Journeyman (S-2).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At time of appointment, EPA Certification as a Universal Refrigerant Technician and a valid driver's license.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written examination. Qualified applicants will be evaluated and ranked based on their education, training, and relevant work experience as documented in their application materials.

Applicants must complete the employment application and all supplemental questions in their entirety, providing complete and accurate information regarding all applicable education, certifications, training, and work experience.

Applicants must submit a copy of their valid S-1 or S-2 license with their application. Failure to provide the required license by the application deadline may result in disqualification from further consideration.
