Job Description

This role focuses on developing, qualifying, and implementing precise measurement processes to support high-volume production of small, injection molded metal components. You will create and validate CMM and other measurement programs, perform new product qualification activities, and provide hands-on support to engineering, production, and quality teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

+ Review new product designs and recommend the most appropriate measurement processes using tools such as hand measurement tools, custom fixtures, visual inspection systems, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).

+ Create detailed measurement processes and CMM programs for new designs, ensuring they are accurate, repeatable, robust, and practical for use in a high-volume production environment.

+ Evaluate and validate new measurement processes through careful testing, analysis, and refinement to ensure consistent and reliable results.

+ Perform new product qualification activities, including First Article Inspections, gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) studies, and capability studies.

+ Support production and quality assurance activities by troubleshooting CMM programs, resolving measurement issues, and helping to disposition nonconforming or suspect material.

+ Continuously improve measurement procedures and methods to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and ease of use on the production floor.

+ Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure measurement strategies align with design intent, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications.

+ Apply statistical process control (SPC) techniques to monitor and analyze measurement data and support process stability and capability.

+ Maintain calibration and proper use of measurement equipment, ensuring adherence to metrology best practices and internal procedures.

+ Document measurement processes, inspection plans, and study results clearly and accurately for use by production, engineering, and quality teams.

Essential Skills

+ 3–5 years of experience as a CMM Technician in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

+ Proficiency in programming and operating CMMs such as OGP, Zeiss, and Mitutoyo.

+ Hands-on experience using CMM software including Zone3, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar platforms.

+ Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.

+ Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpretation of engineering drawings.

+ Solid knowledge of dimensional metrology and measurement principles.

+ Experience conducting gage R&R studies and interpreting the results.

+ Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and its application to production measurement data.

+ Ability to troubleshoot CMM programs and resolve measurement-related issues in a production environment.

+ Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including bump cap, hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety-toed shoes.

+ Eligibility to work as a US Person as defined by ITAR requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Associate’s degree in a technical field such as Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Technology is preferred.

+ Experience working as a CMM Technician specifically with molded metal components is a plus.

+ Familiarity with calibration practices and CMM inspection workflows.

+ Experience with metrology tools beyond CMMs, including hand tools, custom fixtures, and visual inspection systems.

+ Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams in a fast-paced environment.

+ Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving and process validation.
