    CMM Programmer

    Position Title: CMM Programmer

    Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control

    Reports To: Quality Manager

    Position Summary

    The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, validating, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs to inspect precision-machined components produced in a CNC manufacturing environment. This role works closely with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Programming, and Production teams to ensure parts meet customer specifications, GD&T requirements, and internal quality standards. The ideal candidate possesses strong metrology knowledge, experience with CMM software, and a thorough understanding of machining processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Create, modify, and optimize CMM inspection programs using software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, PolyWorks, or equivalent.
    • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, blueprints, and customer specifications.
    • Apply GD&T principles in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
    • Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) measurements as required.
    • Develop inspection plans and measurement strategies for new and existing products.
    • Validate CMM programs prior to release and troubleshoot measurement discrepancies.
    • Analyze inspection data and provide detailed reports to production, engineering, and customers.
    • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to nonconforming products.
    • Maintain calibration and verification records for CMM equipment and related inspection tools.
    • Collaborate with CNC programmers and machinists to improve manufacturability and process capability.
    • Train quality inspectors and operators on measurement techniques and CMM operation.
    • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949, or customer-specific quality requirements.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and process control.

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Quality Assurance, or equivalent experience.

    • Minimum of 3 years of CMM programming experience in a CNC machining environment.

    • Proficiency with CMM software such as:- PC-DMIS

      • Zeiss Calypso
      • MCOSMOS
      • PolyWorks
      • Equivalent metrology platforms
    • Strong understanding of GD&T, datums, tolerancing, and measurement techniques.

    • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD models.

    • Experience using precision measuring instruments including:- Calipers

      • Micrometers
      • Height gages
      • Bore gages
      • Optical comparators
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
    • Experience with aerospace, automotive, medical, or defense manufacturing.
    • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and process capability studies.
    • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or Creo.
    • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification.
    • Experience with automated or robotic CMM systems.

    Technical Skills

    • Understanding of CNC machining processes including:- Milling

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the manufacturing facility.
    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally.
    • Ability to visually inspect detailed machined components.
    • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and noise.

    Performance Expectations

    • Develop accurate and efficient CMM programs that support production schedules.
    • Minimize inspection cycle times while maintaining measurement integrity.
    • Ensure compliance with customer and industry quality requirements.
    • Support continuous improvement efforts that improve quality performance and reduce scrap.
    • Maintain positive working relationships with Quality, Engineering, and Production personnel.
